Newcastle rock outfit Wayward Kings have released their new single Gimme 5, recorded as the official theme song for Beach 5s for their Summer of Footy, Australia’s fast-growing on-sand football event taking place across Australia and New Zealand.
Written originally by Paul Robert Fidler as an anthem for the Beach 5s concept, Gimme 5 captures the high-energy, inclusive spirit of the sport; fast, physical, communal and built for summer. Wayward Kings were invited to bring the track to life, recording their own version that leans into the grit, drive and muscular songwriting that has become synonymous with the band.
Beach 5’s is a fast-paced hybrid of Rugby Union and Rugby League, played barefoot on sand and designed to be accessible to players of all ages and genders. Held annually in Newcastle over the Australia Day weekend, the event blends short-format competition with music, entertainment and community engagement, firmly positioning itself as both a sporting and cultural fixture on the summer calendar.
For Wayward Kings, the connection is natural. The band brings an intense love of heavy rock and powerful songwriting back into the spotlight of the current Australian music scene. Their sound draws from the likes of Pearl Jam, Metallica, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden, anchored by Daley’s distinctive, powerhouse vocal delivery.
Wayward Kings will perform Gimme 5 live in their hometown on January 26 at Nobbys Beach, as part of the Beach 5s Australia Day celebrations. If you haven’t heard of Wayward Kings yet, don’t worry you will. And soon.

AMNPLIFY – DB

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
