With just two days until the release of his debut solo album ‘Ripe Dreams, Pipe Dreams‘ via ANTI and Spinning Top Records, Cameron Avery has shared the video for latest single ‘Dance With Me.’ Featuring Alexa Chung, the poignant visuals masterfully oscillate between deep feelings of love, loss, elation and sorrow. Directed by Nicole McDonald, the video comes ahead of Cameron‘s SXSW appearance and U.S, U.K and Europe tours this April.
Of the clip, Avery says “Dance With Me is two dreamscapes. The car wreck is kind of a metaphoric reality, where someone comes out of nowhere into your life and you’re incapable of avoiding them. The dancing scene is a dreamscape depicting the act of throwing all of yourself in their way in the hope they might open their eyes and see you. And then you play it over in your head and realise it probably couldn’t work anyway, hence the velvet blood, so you’re back where you started. The song itself is more about wanting someone to enter your life, like, gimme a chance, maybe I can make it better.”
Inspired by the old records he loved —Johnny Hartman, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Sarah Vaughan and Etta James, the upcoming self-produced album channels train-wreck romanticism into timeless music for the modern age. Featuring singles Ces’t Toi’ and ‘Wasted On Fidelity’ the debut is a dynamic new direction, resulting in a beautiful body of work driven by Cameron’s soulful wit and sweeping arrangements.
