‘KARMAGEDDON’:

GENOCIDE, BIG PHARMA and POP CULTURE

“Karmageddon” slices through the clamour of modern life, exposing the stark realities of political and social division, media manipulation, corporate greed and public apathy.

It sparks a conversation on the challenges we all face, urging a space for expression without the chokehold of cancel culture. This track is a bold critique that sarcastically exposes how society cheers on its own destruction in a world obsessed with profit and division.

The controversy surrounding “Karmageddon” has already become real for Iyah, after her manager ended their contract over a lyric in the song that Iyah refuses to change.

“I won’t dilute my art and what I believe in. No chance. These lyrics are from a real and deep part of me and if it means being polarising then so be it. I’ll do it on my own if I have to.”

Iyah’s unique duality life as an artist and also a qualified doctor (her ‘side hustle’) allows her to tap into a world of healing and unapologetic expression.

Originally from a tiny rainforest village in Australia’s Far North Queensland/ Ngunbay, raised by her mother and older sisters of Dutch, Pacific Islander, and Filipino heritage, Iyah May discovered her talent for songwriting and music while researching HIV in New York as a broke but bold medical student. A chance ride in an NYPD car to rapper Shaggy’s house where she ate his hummus and performed a cover song, sparked the start of her solo artist career.

At its heart, this song is a call for us to confront our divides and join forces to rebuild and heal. “Karmageddon” is the first track off an exciting upcoming EP.
