Following on from the release of her critically praised single ‘Play’, Western Sydney-based RnB artist A.GIRL has just revealed the accompanying music video – shot and directed by Joseph Plumb from South Of Home Creative.
Shot at Sydney’s Golden Age Cinema and Bar, the clip uses slow motion lip sync effects combined with smooth gimble movements to compliment A.GIRL’s cabaret-esque performance. She glides effortlessly through the clip with grace and poise, highlighting the tracks mesmirising melodies and sultry tones.
A.GIRL describes the link between the track and video:
“’Play’ has two meanings in this song and the video aims to guide the viewer into the flirtatious meaning without being explicit. Also, the cat’s name is Tinker Bell or “Tink” for short. It’s my little sister’s best friend’s kitty, the day of the video shoot was Tink’s first ever road trip.”
In support of the clips release, A.GIRL is set to play sold out shows with Bootleg Rascal and RINI, on the back of performing to capacity audiences in Melbourne, Sydney’s King Street Crawl and at BIGSOUND.
Since release, ‘Play’ has received strong support from Spotify, triple j and Australian community radio including being added to rotation on FBi, with a slew of spins from 4ZZZ and 3RRR. The track has also seen support from online tastemakers Red Bull (AUS), Iggy Magazine (FRA) and Savage Thrills (AUS).
Previous and debut single ‘2142’ garnered strong support from worldwide tastemakers The Word Is Bond (USA), Purple Sneakers, Life Without Andy and Cool Accidents. The track also received extensive radio support through rotation on FBi, triple j Unearthed and Radio Control (NZ), as well as multiple spins from triple j, Double J, 4ZZZ and RRR.
A.GIRL is the moniker of 19-year-old Hinenui-Terangi Tairua. Although she calls Australia home, the connection to her family’s Maori homeland of Te Hapua in the north island of New Zealand runs deep.
