Australia’s premier music festival, Bluesfest Byron Bay is celebrating a daily double this week as the five-day music festival was awarded the Best Cultural, Arts or Music Event in Australia at the Australian Event Awards last night. Following a rigorous judging process by event industry leaders and experts from around Australia, Bluesfest was honoured to take home the prestigious award to Byron Bay. Other finalists in this category included Vivid, Splendour In the Grass, Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and Adelaide Fringe.
In a second celebratory event, Bluesfest Byron Bay will be officially acknowledged into NSW’s Tourism Hall of Fame Awards after winning Best Major Festival & Event for three consecutive years.
Ahead of tonight’s presentation in Sydney, Festival Director Peter Noble OAM is thrilled with the double honour as the festival heads into its 30th year. Speaking after the win, Peter said:
“We’re thrilled to win this coveted award and bring it home to our beloved Byron Bay. The competition was fierce, congratulations to the other finalists, each of whom deserved the win.
The win was all the sweeter because we began 30 years ago as a grass roots music, arts and cultural festival and continue to champion the arts every day of our working lives. To be recognised for our achievements at both state and national level is something we’re absolutely thrilled about. I’m so proud of the Bluesfest team that make our festival happen each year and next year our 30th edition really is shaping up to be our best festival yet.”
Bluesfest was proud to be part of such a strong list of winners at the Australian Event Awards held on the Sunshine Coast, QLD and is extremely proud to be a major driver of tourism to the Northern Rivers region of NSW. Bluesfest previously won six awards at the Australian Event Awards including Event of the Year in 2010.
Music lovers from across Australia will visit the beautiful Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm, just outside Byron Bay over the Easter long weekend (18-22 April 2019) for the 30th Annual Bluesfest. During the Festival they will enjoy 12 hours of music each day across five stages, sample some incredible food and market stalls and avail of on-site camping in a range of accommodation options. Artists announced for 2019 include Jack Johnson, Iggy Pop, Paul Kelly, Norah Jones, Mavis Staples, Hozier, David Gray, Kasey Chambers, Ray LaMontagne, George Clinton and many more.
