AH TREES

‘Nara’ Video Launch

“Blending funk, new-wave, psych and pop, Ah Trees explore a twisting sinkhole of weed, sex and darkness” – Happy Mag

“With a love for twanged guitar chords and echo pedals, these Perth boys have made their claim” Pilerats

Off the back of a WAM nomination for Most Popular New Act of 2016, a self-titled EP release and a national headline tour, Perth’s Ah Trees welcome 2017 with a new single taken from the EP and a video to accompany the release.

‘Nara’ was conceived when frontman Ryan Adair was travelling to the town of the songs namesake, catching the train and gently dozing to the sounds of the Japan Rail intercom. The track shies away from the heavier metaphor employed on previous offerings, with words that come straight from the heart. The new the track is sonically characterized by the lamenting of Adair’s vulnerable vocals, the warmth of the Rhodes electric piano, synth sounds “inspired from sad Disney films growing up” and a tight grooving bass line with R&B inspired beats that keeps both song and listener moving.

The music video for Nara was created by West Australian filmmaker Sam Lara, on the streets and subways of Vienna, Austria. She said the following about the video, “…feeling a touch homesick (in Vienna), I started listening to a sneak preview of the Ah Trees’ EP I had been gifted, and one morning I called up my friend Ryan (from Ah Trees) and said “I’m going crazy. I’m stuck in the most beautiful city in the world. I need to make you a music video.” … Nara is warm, dreamy, nostalgic and poignant; fittingly, so too was my time spent stranded in Vienna and so too, I hope, is the accompanying video.”
