Producers Phil Bathols and Tim Woods announce the popular New Year’s event, All You Need Is Love will return to the Sydney Opera House in January 2020 for the sixth year in a row. This will be the last time the show will be held until 2022 whilst the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall undergoes major renovations.
The Sydney New Year dates will be followed by a special Valentine’s Day show in Melbourne.
January 1 and 2 – Sydney Opera House, Concert Hall
February 14 – Melbourne, Hamer Hall
Appearing on stage will be Jack Jones (Southern Sons), Ciaran Gribbin (INXS), Rai Thistlethwayte (Thirsty Merc) and Jackson Thomas (The Voice) – alongside The Day Tripper Band and The Strawberry Fields Rock Orchestra.
Since it premiered in 2015, ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE has become Australia’s pre-eminent Beatles show. This is a show that treats The Beatles songs – the greatest catalogue in music history – with the love and respect they deserve, with four fantastic singers backed by an incredible orchestra and rock band.
“An amazing journey and nostalgic romp” – the AU review
With more than 40 people on stage, ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE is a grand show in a grand setting. Produced by Phil Bathols and Tim Woods – Australia’s leading producers of Beatles shows (The White Album Concert, Let It Be, Beatles Back2Back, Rubber Soul Revolver) – this is not a tribute band, this is a spectacular live event.
The set list showcases 30 Beatles masterpieces, from the intimacy of ‘Yesterday’ to the childlike whimsy of ‘Yellow Submarine’, the majesty of ‘Across the Universe’ and ‘A Day In The Life’, the intoxicating romance of ‘Something’ and the exuberance of ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’.
“The songs are popular Beatles songs for sure, but they’ve been chosen because they lend themselves to orchestration,” explains co-producer Phil Bathols. “We commissioned all of the orchestrations for these shows ourselves. And the band isn’t a warm prop sitting in the background. They are fully integrated into the show.”
“Earned every one of the three standing ovations they received” – The Music
The song that lends its name to the show’s title comes, appropriately, from the Summer of Love. Written by John Lennon and with an orchestral arrangement by producer George Martin, The Beatles debuted ‘All You Need Is Love’ as Britain’s contribution to Our World, the first global satellite TV show, which brought the world – including Australia – together on June 25, 1967, watched by an estimated audience of 700 million people, the world’s largest TV audience to that date.
In the spirit of collaboration, The Beatles were joined by friends including The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Marianne Faithfull, Keith Moon and Graham Nash. The band’s manager, Brian Epstein, called it The Beatles’ “finest moment”.
An iconic song. An unforgettable live experience. All you need is Beatles. ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE.
“If you give an audience what they want they will leave humming and skipping out into the night” – Adelaide Advertiser
