Over the last few years Alter Boy, the pop noir band from Perth, has been gifting fans with their enigmatic live shows, pulsating beats and introspective lyrics, making their mark as “ones to watch”.
Today they can reveal that their debut album I Don’t Live Here Anymore is set to be released on Friday September 6.
Their latest dark pop track ‘Don’t Hurt Me (I Used To Be A Baby)’ is the first taste of what to expect from the album, laden with heavy electronic beats and industrial sounds set under lead singer Molly’s lingering vocals.

Molly reflects on the single, “The song seeks nothing but to sit for a moment in profound despair with the recognition of what it means to be alive in the present era. It deals with themes of fear and helplessness, shame and guilt, and I imagine the outro is being played by a string quartet on a sinking ship. The musicians have accepted that the ship will go under, but rather than fuss and fight, they continue to play.”
Alter Boy’s debut album I Don’t Live Here Anymore is a eulogy to the relentless death of the self. At the core of Alter Boy is singer, lyricist, auteur and brooding stage presence, Molly Priest, who defines her mission as an artist as, “…tapping into the collective unconsciousness.”
The album is constructed of four movements which reflect Irvin D. Yalom’s four existential fears – freedom, death, isolation, meaninglessness. It is suggested that these four ultimate concerns are the inescapable subconscious drivers of the human experience.
When asked about the inspiration for the album, lyricist Molly Priest says “Understanding narcissism changed my understanding of life. The process of writing the album helped me to deprogram the parts of myself that had learned to outsource reality and seek out a God-figure to worship. I was suddenly living in a completely different world and this lead me to a fascination with consciousness. The album is an attempt at purging old stories with this impossible desire to see it all with clean eyes.”
Recent single ‘Life Finds A Way’ has received massive support from triple j Home & Hosed, Purple Sneakers, Pilerats, and triple j Unearthed Track of the Day. The accompanying Auslan music video showcases the way Alter Boy not only incorporates Auslan into their music, but celebrates Auslan as an integral part of their artistry.
There will be no holding back in 2024 and beyond. No matter where you experience Alter Boy for the first time, afterwards you will forever feel their inexorable pull.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
