Exploring the ‘law of one’ concept, which suggests that all existence is contained within a single universal consciousness, the theory has been reported by those who meditate, use psychedelic substances and in the collective effervescence of a concert.
Molly from Alter Boy says “I wanted to talk to the listener directly. We’re all striving for something, some future time or circumstance that will make us okay or acceptable or true. It’s you right now. You have to welcome all of it. The stuff within you that you’re ashamed of or scared of, the uncertainty of it all. All of it together is the complete experience and it’s happening inside of you.”
‘Portrait of God’ speaks directly to the listener, finding perfection in the most despairing moment. It acknowledges the complex human condition contained within the collective and the individual.
The song encourages radical self love, there is no perfect human and no imperfect god – “You’re alone in a room, It’s a picture of you, It’s a Portrait Of god” .
To celebrate the release of their electrifying debut album, the Perth outfit are embarking on a nationwide tour, performing music from the album to audiences for the very first time.
Alter Boy’s debut album I Don’t Live Here Anymore is a eulogy to the relentless death of the self. At the core of Alter Boy is singer, lyricist, auteur and brooding stage presence, Molly Priest, who defines her mission as an artist as, “…tapping into the collective unconsciousness.”
The album is constructed of four movements which reflect Irvin D. Yalom’s four existential fears – freedom, death, isolation, meaninglessness. It is suggested that these four ultimate concerns are the inescapable subconscious drivers of the human experience.
When asked about the inspiration for the album, lyricist Molly Priest says “Understanding narcissism changed my understanding of life. The process of writing the album helped me to deprogram the parts of myself that had learned to outsource reality and seek out a God-figure to worship. I was suddenly living in a completely different world and this lead me to a fascination with consciousness. The album is an attempt at purging old stories with this impossible desire to see it all with clean eyes.”
Recent singles ‘Don’t Hurt Me (I Used To Be A Baby)’ & ‘Life Finds A Way’ have received support from triple j Home & Hosed, Rolling Stone Best New Music, Backseat Mafia, Purple Sneakers, Pilerats, and triple j Unearthed Track of the Day.
There will be no holding back in 2024 and beyond. No matter where you experience Alter Boy for the first time, afterwards you will forever feel their inexorable pull.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
