Despite the multitude of ways the genre has been disputed and diluted, the spirit of punk rock has always remained, at its core, a state of mind. 131’s new double sided track Northbound/The Undertow displays conviction and attitude that is staunchly embedded in the soul that even the headiest of adult responsibilities cannot drown out.
Luke Yeoward is no stranger to honest music, continuously pushing the boundaries with punk rock anthems from previous band King Cannons, slaying international tours with the likes of The Living End, Shihad and The Broilers to name a few.
After King Cannons decided to part ways, Luke quit music indefinitely and moved to New Zealand. Fortunately for us, Luke has music long embedded in his soul and couldn’t let it go that easy. Now back in Melbourne, Australia, casual jam sessions with brothers Richand Hank Richards (bass/drums) ensued, and the chemistry was immediate. Punk rock came naturally to them, and suddenly things fell into place for 131’s.
Recorded at Luke’s own studio HALF WAY RECORDS where he offers an all inclusive home for artists to rehearse, record, and release material.
“Using an 8 track analog tape recorder. The whole process, including mixing was analog. Our band is now a three piece and our sound has evolved a little since our last release. We feel good about this new direction and feel strong in our stance. We are stoked to finally be able to record and release new material on our own terms.” Luke explains.
“Northbound is a tune about my time and relationships in Hamilton, NZ when I was 17. Some of the best times of my life. Things changed at the drop of a hat back then and life was always turbulent, full of passion and chaos. Eventually it all spun out and things started to fold. Everything was changing and of course, some things would never be the same. I left people I loved behind and I headed North. The Undertow is a tune written in the midst of pretty bad depression. Dissatisfied with the mundane status quo. Dissatisfied with becoming numb. Dissatisfied with jobs, repetition, responsibilities, the potential future, the present and past. Dissatisfied with societal expectations on adults. The Undertow is the invisible force that sucks you in and hurls you out to sea.”

131’s will be debuting their new double A side with a celebration at Stay Gold 133 Sydney Road in Brunswick, Melbourne on the 16th of November.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
