Influenced by the enormous guitar rock of the ’90’s, GUSH have forged their own sound through triumphant fuzzed-out guitar, melodic bass lines, and huge hooks that permeate throughout their music. Occupying a space between the Melbourne shoegaze, indie, and alternative scenes, the band blends songs about everyday life with an emotionality that makes you want to dance and cry. 

“Lyrically Spiteful is probably one of the most indulgent songs that I have written. It’s about breaking up with someone who you know will comparatively achieve so much more than you in life and trying to justifying that decision – kinda like explaining why you broke up with your partner to your mum when your mum loved them almost more than you. Essentially it’s a pretty bleak and angst ridden teen breakup song.” – Louis Smith

Spiteful was recorded with the bands friend Josh Bills in his lux garage studio along with a bunch of other songs in the two last days before Melbourne’s second big lock down in 2021. 

Spiteful was mastered by Don Bartley. GUSH have been playing music in garages and studios all over since 2014 when they were in high school, and formed as GUSH in December 2021. Since then they have been playing in venues across Melbourne and forging their place in the growing heavy shoe-gaze scene. 

GUSH are tough but cute, and the music exudes the fun they have together and the love and friendship that the band has for one another.

Louis, Luci, Ben and Dom are GUSH.
