Introducing Alt Folk duo Nate Scholes which is made up of Wink Fleming and Will Scholes. ‘The Fear’ is the second single which follows the debut ’When I Walk’. Both are taken from the forthcoming debut EP ‘Feels Like Ages’.
The band started life as an acoustic cover band with a love of ambient folk music and have spent the last two years writing, recording and generally kicking around ideas that define their dreamy Alt Folk sound.
Hailing from different areas in New South Wales. Wink growing up in Walgett and Scholesy coming from Muswellbrook, both were heavily influenced by the music their parents listened to.
Starting as two individual musicians, they got chatting and found a mutual appreciation for earthy acoustic sounds to the likes of: Angus and Julia Stone, Bon Iver and Ben Howard (just to name a few faves) and decided to try and make our own.
The pair met at University in 2015, played in pubs for a year for fun to our biased friends, got jobs, and moved to separate towns. For most of 2018 they both lived in different towns and rarely had a chance to collaborate so most of the writing was done over the phone by sending random and rusty voice memos to one another to get songs started. Recording a number of demos at Wink’s family farm near Walgett, at Ulah Studios surrounded by open spaces and skiing in the afternoons on the lagoon.
Early demos often had birds and sheep in the background of the mix. The laid back atmosphere added to the recorded process and definitely shows in their music. From these sessions the new single The Fear was born:

They had a focus for the debut EP – to feature mainly acoustic instruments and keep the soul of the music firmly based in sounds they could get out of guitars, bass and the human voice.
Eventually they had enough songs to go into the studio and felt like Newcastle was a great place to do it. Recording Sessions were locked in with Gareth Hudson from Hazy Cosmic Jive Studios who did an amazing job bringing their sonic musing to life.
The Fear is the new single taken from the forthcoming debut Ep Feels Like Ages.
The Fear will be digitally released across all platforms 1st November 2019

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
