Seven long years since his last release with acclaimed electro-pop quartet The Arsonist, Perth-based singer, songwriter and producer Louis-Rendle O’Shea steps out in solo form with his debut cut of soulful R&B, Falling.
Falling (and the whole Nocturnal project) has both been a long-time in the making and born out of tragedy. Losing all interest in songwriting over half a decade ago when Rendle O’Shea decided to focus on his family and life outside of music in general, he always knew he’d return to songwriting with that all-too-familiar and comfortably vague time frame of “one-day”.
That “day” was 2 weeks after the tragic passing of his father, when during the long sleepless nights following his father’s death, Louis was inspired to start writing music again – giving birth to Nocturnal in the wee hours of the morning. Feeling completely free of any expectation and writing music as a pure outpouring of emotion, Nocturnal represents Rendle O’Shea’s most honest music to date, with the idea for Falling flowing out one fateful morning at 3am, in just 20 minutes.

Released independently on Friday, January 28, Falling instantly hooks you into its emotive narrative with deep, pulsing synth chords and Louis’s stunning vocals, giving way to boom-bap drums that add to the building energy and tension, before being released by the addictively catchy chorus. Multiple melodies, both vocal and piano, weave their way through the intricately layered mix, just begging for its secrets to be revealed across multiple listens.
Lyrically, Falling tells a tale of substance addiction, a battle Rendle O’Shea found himself fighting too many times over the years. Realising the path he was on and wanting desperately to avoid a lifetime of struggle, something finally clicked and after a year of false starts, Louis finally shook the monkey from his back.
While a solo project at heart, Nocturnal embraces collaboration, including their secret weapon of a rhythm section, with Jon Stockman (bass) and Steve Judd (drums) of Karnivool bringing their professionalism and expert musicianship to the table, providing the missing piece of the Nocturnal puzzle. Largely self-recorded, Rendle O’Shea enlisted the help of award winning recording engineer and producer Dave Parkin (Spacey Jane, Pond, Drapht) to add the final touches.
With his love for songwriting rekindled, Falling is an extremely impressive start to the next chapter of Rendle-O’Shea’s musical career, with a few more singles on the horizon before his debut full-length album drops in mid-2022 – watch this space…

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
