‘THE FORRESTERS’
return with a homage to
Big Star’s
‘THIRTEEN’

.

The Forresters.

“…Sydney outfit the Forresters were formed by singer-songwriter Anthony Bautovich of the critically acclaimed Oz ensemble The Orange Humble Band…it’s a cool-sounding EP, and will surely find a home with the alt.country audience that is so enamoured of Vigilantes of Love and Golden Smog…”   – Maverick (UK)

“…bright harmonies, guitars that really should be pouring out of open car windows, joy in a Teenage Fanclub / Jayhawks vein…”  Americana UK

…it’s a luscious mixture of pop, rock, r’n’b, and country, tantalising and exploratory. It never rests on it’s laurels: the songs develop and change as they progress, new elements continually introduced, new echoes from rock’s rich tapestry setting off gentle footfalls down the passageways of memory…” Nick West – Bucketfull of Brains (UK)

… regardless of vogue, there’s always a place for a band like The Forresters…” – Amplifier Magazine (U.S.A)

After a lengthy hiatus, The Forresters return with the single ‘Thirteen’, a cover of the ‘70s power pop legends, Big Star. The Forresters name check Big Star as a key influence and this stripped back acoustic version exudes the emotive fragility of the original.

‘Thirteen’ is the first taste test of the forthcoming LP ‘Something to Give’. The Forresters previous releases include their debut album and EPs in 2016 and 2019 respectively.  ‘Something to Give’ is a joyous excursion into contemporary power pop.

‘’The Forresters’ stripped back acoustic version of the Big Star classic ‘Thirteen’ is homage to one of our key influences. Embracing folk and pop characteristics, supported by tender acoustic guitars, the bittersweet lyrics of this Alex Chilton and Chris Bell classic capture the aching innocence of adolescence’. Anthony Bautovich (Vocals/Guitar)

The Forresters.

Emerging from a period of lockdowns, isolation and a scarcity of live shows, this Sydney outfit deliver their rock’n’roll antidote – an uplifting power pop album, ‘Something to Give’. The Forresters is the brainchild of singer/songwriter Anthony Bautovich (The Lonelyhearts, The Orange Humble Band).

 “I actually started promo for this album before the Covid-19 restrictions kicked in during March last year” says Bautovich. “We were scheduled to do a show that weekend and had a radio interview with Vinny Ramone on 2SER booked for that Thursday but by Wednesday, Sydney was madly stocking up on toilet paper!” – Anthony Bautovich (Vocals/Guitar)

The forthcoming album was mixed by current Big Star guitarist, US indie producer Mitch Easter (REM, Pavement, Wilco). The album was mixed in Mitch Easter’s Fidelitorium Studio in North Carolina.

Bautovich has assembled a fine line-up of Australian musicians on his recordings with the core band comprising of Matt Galvin (Perry Keyes) on guitar, Nick Kennedy (Big Heavy Stuff) on drums, Brielle Davis (Not Good with Horses) on backing vocals, Cameron Bruce (Paul Kelly) on keyboards, Steve Balbi (Noiseworks) on bass and guest appearances by Charlie Owen (Beasts of Bourbon) on guitar and Nashville based Emma Swift on backing vocals.

In the meantime, enjoy ‘Thirteen’ and look out for ‘Something to Give’ released later this year.

 ‘THIRTEEN’ will be released across all digital platforms 16th July
