The Shakey’s have announced their long-awaited debut full-length record, Mob Mentality, to be released independently Friday 8th October 2021.
Nearly seven years since the release of their well-received White Lightning EP, the wait for an album is almost over for fans of the Boorloo/Perth-based four-piece of punk rock & rollers, who themselves have been waiting after a string of bad luck saw the album’s original release date of 2019 pushed back several times.
Recorded live at Poons Head Studios by award-winning engineer Rob Grant back in 2018, the aim of the sessions were to “track everything as fast as possible – smash it out and keep the punk in it, keeping our live sound in the recordings”, according to vocalist Claire Hodgson, resulting in that does just that – stays true to the punk rocks ethos, while capturing the essence of the band’s live shows in a rugged-yet-refined package.

Deriving its name from observations by author Jon Ronson in his book “So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed”, the title refers to the concept of the mob vengeance of old moving into the digital world, and the way it can polarise modern society – a 21st century phenomena the band laments on in appropriately tongue-in-cheek style on the scorching title track.
Showcasing two sides of the band’s fast, furious and addictive blend of punk meets rock & roll (with a sprinkling of garage for good measure), Mob Mentality’s 10 tracks alternate between in-your-face raucousness and a more melodic sound (while keeping its edge). Both styles have one thing in common – revealing the group’s knack for writing catchy licks and hooks that stay with you long after the record finishes.
The album’s striking artwork is courtesy of Brad Weir, known for his gig posters for Perth’s iconic Hyde Park Hotel in its heyday of yesteryear, with the result managing to visually capture how the band sounds, radiating a blistering style of organised chaos with a playful, fun attitude.
Having played gigs all around Perth over the last decade, the band are known for their dynamic, high-energy live shows, which has led to them supporting the likes of Meat Puppets, The Hard-Ons, Guitar Wolf, Marky Ramone and many more. In anticipation of launching their album, the band are focusing on upping the intensity and interaction at their gigs even more.
To celebrate the album’s release, The Shakeys are bringing their live show to Lucy’s Love Shack on Saturday, October 9, playing the album in its entirety, with some tracks being performed for the first (and potentially last?) time ever! Alongside The Shakey’s frenetic live performance, punter’s will be treated to sets from Perth art-punk stalwarts Shit Narnia and garage rockers Brackets (featuring members of Surf Rabbits).

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
