Kristy Apps is bringing her powerhouse roots/rock magic to Brisbane’s newest venue to launch her video & single “In That Town” on November 26 at It’s Still A Secret – the revamped South Brisbane venue in the heritage listed Coronation Hotel, formerly The Milk Factory. With special guest Nikolaine Martin.
Lifted from Kristy Apps 6th studio album ‘Take Heed’ released earlier this year, ‘In That Town’ weaves elements of alt/country, roots and rock around a story of finding beauty and hope in a small community.
Speaking about the song, Kristy says “I’ve worked in some jobs in factories and warehouses in small towns that were tough, dirty and heavy hard work with folks that had very different views than me. They were hard environments and to me they visually represented what depression felt like… but when you wade through the muck you can see they also represent resilience and hopefulness – “depression in the breeze that raises the dust it dances in the air with the rubbish and rust it’s hard to even pass it by without wondering where the hope might lie”.
When I wrote this song, I was also obsessed with the show Friday Night Lights which reinforced this idea that in a town with little opportunities there is still beauty and when communities come together, there is hope. I love the southern rock feel of this song, it was important for me to represent the narrative in the riff and feel of the song.”

Only opening its doors a few weeks prior, new venue It’s Still A Secret has been lovingly refurbished with all the cool & groovy charm that the owners brought to their sibling venue Can You Keep A Secret vintage store and lounge bar in Woolloongabba.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
