On March 12th, Perth indie acoustic rockers The Milkmen released the first taste of their recent recording sessions at John Butler Studio with engineer Jarrad Wheildon – their new single ‘Didn’t Catch Your Name’ is out now on WA indie label Doomity Records. The video for the single will be released on Friday, March 19th.

Speaking about the video, singer Conor Mcloughin said, “The video is directed by Emile M. Smith and was shot over two nights at his property in Sawyers Valley. Emile and his team are super passionate and very efficient working together like clockwork. His ideas are trippy which is what drew me to him to direct it. We went with the concept of an old man (and at times a young man) sitting stagnating, wild with frustration, reflecting on the past while the world goes on without him. His frustration is memory, the could-haves and the should-haves. He wishes for the intangible as he awaits a command that has already been given.”

“My father Brendan Mcloughlin played the part of the old man. The first night Dad and I travelled up to shoot we were greeted by practically naked people covered in clay – the cast getting ready to play the shadow self/tribe people… quite a weird situation to be in with your Dad!”

The Milkmen met at school mid 2000s and have divided their time since between Australia and the UK. Their influences are as diverse as their music, ranging from Dave Matthews Band & Radiohead to Incubus, Oasis & The Beatles; and they have been likened to Mumford & Sons and The Lumineers.

The Milkmen, leaping on stage with a unique collection of acoustic guitars, saw fit to highlight PULMAC’s creative approach. Lead vocalist Conor Mcloughlin’s haunting gravely vocals pulled everyone up onto the dance floor. The group’s fearsome folk-rock vibe, distinguishing it from similar ensembles around Perth, drew whoops and cheers from almost every onlooker. McLoughlin’s distinctive British accent added gravitas to a searing rendition of ballad ‘Make You Happy’. Switching from folk-rock to country for Reality Check, the group’s talent and range became unquestionable. Catchy, authentic renditions of ‘Go Solo’ and ‘Like A Drug’ lovingly illuminated the group’s distinctive, world-spanning sound.

BIO

Once upon a time, the Milkmen were those that used to deliver cold fresh milk at the doorsteps of your house: empty bottles left with coins to pay for more milk. Turn the page of history to today and The Milkmen are not what you think.

The Milkmen are indeed an Australian indie acoustic rock band. Listen closely and you can hear years of blended velvet sounding ballads, driving rhythms, catchy and thoughtful lyrics which take the listener from original folk/blues/indie rock/pop to foot tapping pure rock.

Formed and based in Perth, The Milkmen have divided their time between Australia and the UK. Their influences are as diverse as their music, ranging from Dave Matthews Band, Red Hot Chili Peppers & Radiohead to Incubus, Oasis & The Beatles.

Debuting in 2009 with their Always Deliver EP, the band were the product of mateship and a mutual love of music. By the time of their first album, 2010’s The Man With The Plan, The Milkmen had confidently defined their own sound, incorporating great ideas from a huge spectrum of genres and honing them into an explosive concoction that takes the gentleness of acoustic music and delivers it with the force of stadium rock.

The band spent time on the road playing at festivals and events around Australia and England before releasing their sophomore album, Behind Closed Eyelids in 2018. An intense and rewarding listening experience driven by the gritty vocal style of Conor Mcloughlin, the band taps a vein of dirty acoustic rock, striking gold with masterfully layered songs that delve deep into the heavier realities of life. Legendary Perth producer Rob Grant was enlisted to sonically sculpt Behind Closed Eyelids.

In 2021 The Milkmen band have emereged from behind closed borders with new single Didn’t Catch Your Name, a hook-laden rock song set for release on March 12. The song is derived from a point of reflection, touching on the vibe that “if I had my time again would I do things differently”.
