Eora/Sydney-based musician, visual artist and designer Annie Hamilton today unveils her latest single, ‘Electric Night’, out now on [PIAS] Australia.
‘Electric Night’ is a timely love song for humid summer nights, for the wild electrical storms, for when the gum trees fly away and the fruit bats circle overhead. It’s about finding someone to escape reality with, humbled beneath the imposing majesty of nature and watching the sky, allowing yourselves to get swept away by it all. Co-produced by Annie Hamilton, Pete Covington (Thelma Plum), and Methyl Ethel’s Jake Webb, it’s a full-circle moment for Annie, who covered the Perth outfit’s single ‘Ubu’ for triple j’s Like A Version back in 2020. The single lands alongside a redolent, self-directed music video, premiered by CLASH Magazine and featuring cinematography from Rosie Fitzgerald.
A song about falling in love and falling into the moment, ‘Electric Night’ is like a summer storm you can feel coming, lingering in the air, a presence that steadily crescendos over the course of the afternoon. But when it finally breaks, it does so quickly: the dramatic rupture of the oppressive daytime heat. With swirling layers of guitar, oceanic synths, booming drums and a field recording of a cracking whip, Hamilton’s signature blend of dream-pop and alt-rock conjures up the balmy, charged atmosphere of stumbling home with someone in the late night watching a storm roll in, while her poetic, matter-of-fact lyricism hones in on the curious tranquility that opens up inside while outside, the skies darken, becoming heavy with imminent thunder and roaring wind.
“when we stumbled home on hot night gravel the threads that held my heart unravelled, turn the light off, watch the gum trees fly off into the electric night”
Her second single of 2021, ‘Electric Night’ follows August’s ‘Exist’, which secured rotation on triple j Unearthed, FBi Radio, Double J and 2SER, as well as garnering acclaim from NME AU, BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders, Atwood Magazine and more.
Through cascading, ethereal vocals and sprawling instrumentation, Annie Hamilton boasts a unique ability to evoke memory and nostalgia within her music. In her short solo career, she has already completed tours with Julia Jacklin, Gordi and Jack River, as well as attracting the praise of triple j, FBi Radio, RUSSH and LNWY, and boasts strong support on streaming platforms, with over 2 million streams across DSPs. In addition to her solo project, Hamilton runs her own eponymous fashion label and has also performed in live bands for Jack River, PeachPRC, Hayley Mary, and Maddy Jane.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
