First Nations artists are invited to apply for a recording grant as part of the ARIA PPCA Australia Council First Nations Sound Recording Partnership. Five new grants will be available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists to create new recordings.
Applications are open from Monday 17 August and close at 11.59 AEST on 20 October 2020. To apply, artists should visit HERE. Successful grant applicants will be announced later this year.
The five new grants are each valued at $18,500 are made possible by the Australian Government’s Indigenous Contemporary Music program. They build upon the success of the grants program that has been run by the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA) and the Australia Council since 2013, providing support to over 40 new Australian recordings across a diverse range of genres.
Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, said the funding will provide a platform for contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians to grow and share their music.
“The Australian Government is proud to partner on these grants that will see five First Nations artists supported to record and promote their music. This will help them reach more people and build new professional networks across the Australian music industry.”
The new grants will follow the existing application and assessment infrastructure and draw on the expertise of a First Nations Industry Advisory Panel. The grant program will provide funds for new recordings and accommodate access to industry professionals who will advise and help the grantees to develop an effective release strategy for their recording project.
The intention of the new grants is to expand the diversity of Australian voices as well as developing the capacity and professional capability of First Nations music industry aspirants. The grants will result in five new recordings from First Nations artists and aid the development of sustainable career pathways for First Nations creatives.
This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Indigenous Contemporary Music program, which aims to provide development opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians and bands throughout Australia.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
