The idyllic surrounds of Goomburra Valley will play host to two days and nights of merry-making in celebration of Arcadia’s fifth instalment from Saturday 2nd through Monday 4th of May. The intimate party, which began back in 2016 under the starry skies of the Granite Belt, is now a fully-flourished boutique event that is a staple of the May Long weekend for revellers from far and wide.

Talented tastemaker Made In Paris will headline her first festival on May 2 while eclectic jazz- soul outfit First Beige will play into the sunset on the main stage known fondly by punters as ‘The Shed’. Rounding out the line up in 2020 are a dynamic and vibrant collection of live acts, producers, DJs and visual artists sourced from Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, Sydney, Melbourne and beyond.

Onsite camping is included in both one-day and two-day ticket prices less than two hours’ drive south-west of Brisbane. A comprehensive extracurricular program encompassing yoga, dress- ups on day 2 and workshops as well as BYO food and drink work harmoniously to ensure punters are fully immersed in the experience.

THE LINEUP

Enigmatic producer, label founder and DJ Made in Paris will close out the main stage on Saturday night with her brooding melodic soundscapes juxtaposing the natural surrounds. Over the past year, her label Upon Access has showcased a bevy of up and coming Australian artists, while her own tracks have been released on labels Anjunadeep, Of Leisure and Rose Avenue Records.

Made in Paris embodies what Arcadia strives to deliver, simultaneously providing a platform for local electronic sounds and pioneering a new wave of self-released music for the burgeoning market. She is poised to deliver new music in the first half of 2020 having recently signed to Stil Vor Talent while her latest track ‘Pursuit’ remains on high rotation the world over.

Set to deliver an unforgettable live set on day two of Arcadia, six piece Brisbane outfit First Beige have solidified themselves as one of the rawest, most euphoric and in-demand live acts on the circuit. Their soulful mix of disco tinged grooves interplay with sweeping synths and irresistable vocal hooks designed to get the whole body moving. Late 2019 the band released EP ‘Mirrors’ full to the brim of dance inspired compositions that are equal parts infectious and nostalgic.

Melbourne producer Luke Alessi has a unique melodic sound that marries the eerie darkness of underground techno with an enchanting storytelling nature. His two-track EP ‘Ara’ left a substantial mark on dancefloors down under and with a number of original tracks due to land over the coming months, he already has plenty in store for 2020. upsidedownhead is a product of wonky, dark and beautiful electronica with tracks ‘to give’ and ‘get low’ that straddle introspective and haunting. His live show pleased crowds at Bigsound and EMC late 2019, evoking emotion at every turn.

Pulsing drums, full-bodied basslines and melodies that ooze with groove are the hallmarks of Sunshine Coast production duo SEVADER. Since playing Arcadia in 2019, they released official remixes for Cassian and Poolclvb and have 2 definitive EPs slated for release in the months leading up to their hotly anticipated return to the main stage. After a 2-year hiatus, producer and vocalist squidgenini made a splash with ‘Trigger Me’, exploring the liminal space between Pop, R&B, Hip Hop and Techno. Her unique set is bound to inspire and uplift as the sun begins to set on day 1 of Arcadia.

Alone is a new identity in electronic music, his debut track ‘Dawn’ was premiered by Arcadia alum Willaris. K during his 2019 triple j mix up residency. While his alias suggests otherwise, the depth achieved in the evocative synthesized waveforms of his productions make the listener feel anything but. Hailing from the golden beaches of the Sunshine Coast, self-labelled bedroom producer Borderland State is set to deliver a live set laden with thick synth melodies and layered percussive textures. His productions have been released on homegrown labels Exist Recordings and Here to Hell with plenty waiting to be heard in the flesh.

Brisbane sibling duo Ministry of Mars’ infectious tracks ‘Recognise’, ‘Breaking Me’ and ‘Breaking Me’ will provide a soothing soundtrack to your long weekend. Their exploration of indie pop and electronica promises a number of new tracks in early 2020.

Exciting Brisbane export Tokyo Twilight won the Queensland Music Awards Schools category in 2019 with ‘Little Things’ which was co-written and performed by Arcadia alum DVNA. Warping vocals and lush synths that wrap warmly around entrancing drums and bass tones will stay with you long after his set concludes.

As per previous years, the live line up will be complemented by DJs handpicked from across the Great Southeast. The brains behind The Space Between Us collective Hannah D will be joined by Jaime Forson for a special back to back set, Respect Guy will deliver his unique brand of genre-spanning curation and the dynamic duo behind Brisbane’s newest warehouse brand, Pleasuredome DJs will round out the first announcement.

At the close of the Main Stage the Pans stage comes alive for what is best described as a ‘forest disco’. Byron Bay event collective Well Spent have been handed the reigns for an audio visual takeover on the Saturday night. To close out day 2, newcomers Southbound Sessions will be making their Arcadia takeover debut with 4 hours of power. Stay tuned for the second line up announcement to discover who will be playing under their respective banners.

A number of visual artists have been invited to showcase their talents, to captivate punters and complement the natural setting. Since her first time painting live at Arcadia 2019, Owlet has toured Australia by road and produced a number of large scale murals celebrating Australia’s unique landscapes and fauna. Visual curators Satan’s Rainbow will return to provide visual delights to the main stage across both nights. Rounding out the first announcement is Taneal Teresa, a Brisbane-based abstract mixed media artist who will be painting a unique piece across the weekend.
