The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) today welcomes the announcement by the Federal Government of the $250 million JobMaker package for the Australian arts and music industries.

The Australian music community has been hit hard by the COVID-19 crisis, with live performances being halted in the early stages of restrictions. Live music and performance were one of the first industries to be impacted when lockdowns came into effect due to the closure of venues, and it will be one of the last to fully recover from this crisis as a result of continuing social distancing measures.

The new JobMaker package is tailored to the specific challenges that the arts and music sectors have faced and continue to face. ARIA thanks the Federal Government for listening to those that have been impacted, including artists who spoke to the Prime Minister directly, and now addressing their concerns with the announcement of today’s package.

JobMaker will go a long way in helping the artists, crews, businesses and workers that make up the Australian music industry recover and return to what they do best – making world-class music and putting on the shows that entertain millions of people around Australia.

Denis Handlin AO, Chairman of ARIA, said: “Our industry is made up of incredible artists, and together with so many that work with them ‘behind the scenes’, they have been faced with unprecedented challenges over the recent months. Today’s announcement is welcomed and it is much needed support for those who contribute so much to our country’s creative economy.”

Dan Rosen, CEO of ARIA, said: “This package announced by the Federal Government is very welcomed and will go a long way to helping our industry navigate the challenges posed by the COVID-19 crisis. This is a crucial package for so many across our industry, and it is an acknowledgment of the importance of music to the community and wellbeing of all Australians.”
