The last six months have proved fruitful for Ash Grunwald. An 11-date Spanish tour was complemented more locally by a performance at Under The Southern Stars along with Jimmy Barnes and Diesel and a support for Midnight Oil on their acclaimed Australian reunion tour was followed by a rousing reception at WA’s Blues at Bridgetown festival.
Top it off with an appearance on the Australian Open Live stage and Grunwald is barrelling into 2018, with a new album also on its way, already led by the feisty singles, “Ain’t My Problem” and “Hammer”. Everything is in its right place.

“Music is just so amazing,” Grunwald enthuses. “I first picked up a guitar 31 years ago! Lately I’ve just been appreciating how amazing it is to practice a lot and see what happens. People probably think you do that all the time; for me it comes in fits and starts.”
“This little era has just been so epic. I feel like the frothing teen who wanted to be Hendrix…and I still can’t play half as well as him, goddamit! One thing I’ve realised is that I’m much happier when I’m trying to improve rather than just cruising.”
“So I’ve been going on a lot of musical tangents but all centre around the guitar and playing bluesy stuff. I’m gonna put out a record this year that’s a bit more mellow, bluesier stuff and then onto some more collaborations.”
Grunswald hits WA later this week with a solid schedule of metropolitan and regional dates.
