Aspy Jones today releases his debut single, ‘Hatches’, off his upcoming EP due for release later this year. Recorded in Brisbane by James North Productions, ‘Hatches’ was written to inspire a friend who was going through a really tough time.
“We’ve all been there”, said Aspy, “and I think it’s important to let your friends and family know that you’re there for them and to remind them to keep moving forward”.
It could be considered a somewhat surprising source of inspiration for an artist known for his personality and quirky sense of humour, but the uplifting song is packed full of character and Aspy’s amiability shines throughout. “Trust me”, he sings on the track, and it’s hard not to.
At just 20, Aspy Jones has already made a mark on the scene and played to 3,000+ people at Gympie New Year’s Eve Family Fun Night alongside the X Factor’s Dean Ray. He’s also been the recipient of the QLD Government’s Regional Arts Fund and Regional Arts Development Fund, and his upcoming five-track EP showcases his prolific song writing ability.
“Music’s everything to me”, he says, because “it’s an amazing way to express yourself”.
Now, with the release of his catchy first single and more to follow, it would seem that he’ll be expressing himself to a lot more people for a while to come. As he sings on ‘Hatches’, “you’ve gotta find that thing you love” and maybe that thing will end up being Aspy Jones.
