This June, the Matildas will be pursuing their dream to win on the world stage in France. As the nation rallies behind this incredible collective of athletes, Nike has brought together Aussie artists Ninajirachi, KLP, Kota Banks and Nina Las Vegas to release an anthem dedicated to the national women’s football team.
The track titled “Everything We Ever Dreamed Of” is about the Matildas’ journey to the top, where the athletes have the prospect to win and turn their dreams into reality. This is the first time the team has had a song written and produced for them.
All acclaimed songwriters and producers in their own right, Ninajirachi, KLP, Kota Banks and Nina Las Vegas came together alongside additional songwriters GRAACE and Thandi Phoenix to record the inspirational song at Forbes Street Studio in Sydney in April. The lyrics are a powerful nod to the perseverance and strength of the current generation of athletes in this inspiring team, which is everything Australian sport has ever dreamed of. The track captures the youthful spirit and energy of the team whilst heroing their rallying cry “Never Say Die”.
Nike athlete and Matildas striker Caitlin Foord believes music is an integral part of football culture, from amping the team up on match day to relaxing off-pitch in her downtime. “To have a brand new Nike kit made especially for the Matildas, and now our own anthem, it’s incredible. We are heading into the biggest competition of our lives, so to have the nation rally behind us with the jersey and this track feels really special.”
“We know a bunch of Aussies will head over to France, but this track gives all our fans on home soil a chance to get behind the Matildas. It’s a huge time for women in sport, so the more the fans can celebrate with us, the better.”
Nike athlete and Matildas young gun defender Ellie Carpenter was excited to hear the track made for the national women’s team. “I love it. It’s a super talented group of artists, and we are happy to have this collective represent the Matildas’ vibe with an epic anthem made just for us,” said Carpenter.
Artist Nina Las Vegas said, “This opportunity was incredibly unique and exciting and impossible to turn down! It’s awesome knowing we can contribute to the Matildas’ journey in France. The Matildas are inspiring all Australians to dream big, so we’re excited to raise up women’s football with this track collaboration.”
Artist KLP was glad to have been part of this track. She says, “To be able to write lyrics and melodies to inspire the Matildas to kick goals in France is an experience I will never forget. Go team!”
“Everything We Ever Dreamed Of” will be available to stream/download from May 30 via Musica Copa/TMRW Music with remixes from additional artists coming soon.
