Australian Folk Singer/Songwriter
SAM BUCKINGHAM
announces
New Album
THE WATER
+ Tour Kicks off THIS WEEK

We’re thrilled to announce the upcoming release of Sam Buckingham’s long awaited new album THE WATER. The compelling collection of songs that confront fear, convey heartache and celebrate adventure, desire and devotion will be available this Friday, June 2nd, 2017 – via Bandcamp.
THE WATER is supported by Creative Partnerships Australia, through MATCH, and 10% of album sales within the first month will be donated to the Australian Marine Conservation Society.
Having already released two independent albums, graced the stages of Australia’s premier music festivals, and played alongside the likes of Katie Noonan, Megan Washington and Lior, Buckingham is both a seasoned performer and an exciting emerging talent in Australia’s burgeoning singer/songwriter scene. Buckingham’s new album THE WATER speaks true to the core of her reputation as an authentic and prolific songwriter, each song rich with intricate storytelling and her timeless, enduring voice.
With the majority of songs written over an eighteen-month sojourn throughout Latin America, Buckingham immersed herself in new cultures and varied pursuits including working on a turtle conservation project with Sea Shepherd, learning Spanish and completing formal yoga teacher training in Mexico. She sought local musicians and creative collaborations, as songs were written in hotel rooms, on top of dense jungle mountains and every conceivable place in-between.
.
“It was a time of intense exploration and growth – I was affected by so many people and experiences that I was quite certain they needed to be written about. I’d pick up my guitar already knowing, in a way, what I wanted to say.”
– SAM BUCKINGHAM

.
THE WATER became somewhat of an audio journal, where subtle rhythms and the emotive language of Latin America sit beside fragile folk music, rousing Americana and pop-inflected hooks. There are fascinating surprises scattered throughout the record, while Buckingham explores the marriage of Australian folk with Latino influence – like a distorted steel pan bursting out from underneath a crunching electric guitar and heartbreaking harmonies.
Today, Buckingham shares with you an engaging behind the scenes music video to the tune of her outstanding track “Living In The Dark”. Premiered on Rhythms Mag, the video is a direct insight into the one-week recording process of the upcoming album THE WATER.
.
She also serves up a suspenseful and artistic video for her title track ‘The Water’.
