Katie Noonan explains, “For years I have been dreaming of singing in an a capella ensemble like AVÉ.  Surrounded by these three truly extraordinary artists is challenging and inspiring, and I believe we’re creating a special and unique sound world that I hope will bring succour and joy. Championing and celebrating Australian sounds and stories continues to be my primary focus as a creator, and I am thrilled that AVÉ is coming to life at a time when we need the panacea of music more than ever.”

The acappella vocal quartet is yet another group forced to reschedule their live dates due to the continued uncertainty around border closures and ongoing challenges presented by the pandemic.

All previously announced tour dates on their ‘Tumbling Like Stars’ live concert tour will now move to February and March 2022 – see below for all new dates.

Noonan said, “We are disappointed to be joining the long list of Aussie artists having to reschedule work again, but we are focusing on the silver linings of new music and our postponed tour dates for 2022!”

‘Tumbling Like Stars’ live will feature World Premiere performances from AVÉ’s David Malouf 12 piece song cycle showcasing Australia’s finest contemporary composers, alongside new arrangements of Renaissance and Baroque greats Bach, Handel and Tomás Luis de Victoria.

2022 will also see the roll out of regional performances of ‘Tumbling Like Stars’ thanks to the support of The RISE Fund targeting funding towards the arts and entertainment sector.  This tour will include workshops and performance opportunities for regional vocal students and community choirs whilst offering world-class mentoring and educational opportunities to vocalists who have limited access to artists of this calibre. All dates to be advised.

AVÉ – Australian Vocal Ensemble has also added a new member to the team, announcing the appointment of Alicia Gibbons as General Manager, overseeing all of the group’s activities.

“I am delighted to be joining the AVÉ team at such an exciting time for the organisation. To have secured support from generous donors, Australia Council for the Arts, Arts QLD and now the support of the RISE fund shows the importance of the ensemble’s vision. I’m thrilled to play a part in facilitating the organisation’s ambitions and working alongside Katie Noonan and ensemble members Fiona Campbell, Andrew Goodwin and Andrew O’Connor,” Alicia Gibbons said today.

Katie Noonan concurs, “We are excited at the prospect of our dreams growing alongside Alicia’s journey as a Manager, and we are excited to see her spread her wings – supported and empowered by our belief in her capacity.”

Noonan has recently been nominated in the 2021 Limelight Artists of the Year Awards and is a finalist for the Artistic Excellence Award at the Australian Women In Music Awards, to be announced on May 18, 2022.

About AVÉ

AVÉ – Australian Vocal Ensemble sees Katie Noonan joined by three extraordinary, internationally renowned artists in Campbell, Goodwin and O’Connor. It is an elite chamber vocal ensemble of international excellence but one that is warm and welcoming to all. They will champion new Australian works on every tour, engage with our First Nations Communities at every concert and engage with local community choirs as touring continues.

Katie Noonan has proven herself one of Australia’s most hardworking, versatile and prolific artists, spanning diverse genres, leading from the front as an artistic director, from the stage as an acclaimed performer and from behind the scenes, nurturing fellow performers and programmers. She has performed for royalty, national and international leaders, and blazed a trail for young women artists.

Music, for her, is a lifelong lesson and a means to change the world. AVÉ’s mission is to create an unparalleled music experience for audience members – a chance to explore new Australian composers, a chance for audiences to find their own voice and a chance to hear Indigenous songs of their own country alongside late Renaissance and Baroque masterpieces and brand new works.

AVÉ will employ singers, commission 10+ Australian composers per year and record their works, engage with some 250 vocal students and 500 community singers each year, mentor an emerging quartet, perform to over 5000 regional audience members each year and to a national metropolitan audience of over 5000 each year. It will be a full schedule.

Already Noonan has commissioned works from Richard Tognetti, Iain Grandage, Stephen Leek, David Hirschfelder, Connor D’Netto, Thomas Green, Alice Humphries, Zac Hurren, Anne Cawrse, Jessica Wells and Robert Davidson and the proof is in the numbers – 50% are Queensland composers, 30% are female and 100% are Australian.

Andrew Goodwin was born in Sydney, Australia, and studied singing at the St Petersburg State Conservatory. After completing his studies in St. Petersburg, Andrew moved to London to further his education at the Royal Academy of Music on full scholarship, where he studied with Dennis O’Neil and later Robert Dean. During this time he appeared in theatres around Europe and returned regularly to Australia to perform with Opera Australia and Pinchgut Opera.  His career as an operatic tenor has since seen him embrace a wide range of roles from the baroque through to contemporary works at some of the world’s greatest opera houses, including La Scala Milan, Gran Theatre Liceu Barcelona, Teatro Real Madrid and the Sydney Opera House.

ANDREW O’CONNOR – Bass-Baritone

Andrew is a Lay Clerk with St Mary’s Cathedral Choir, Sydney, was an Associate Artist with Pacific Opera in 2019, was the winner of the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Aria Competition 2020, and has recently joined the newly formed Australian Vocal Ensemble. From 2015 – 2019 he was a core member of The Song Company – and has since developed a busy freelance career encompassing opera, the concert platform, vocal chamber music, and the classroom. Praised for his ‘remarkable musicianship’ (Limelight Magazine) and ‘textured, fine-wine bass baritone’ (Arts Hub) he appears regularly with virtually all of Sydney’s leading music organisations.
