Aya Yves returns for her second release of 2022, and it’s one that’ll make you look for your box of tissues. The emotive track ‘p.s.’ explores themes of love, grief, hope- and how they tend to co-exist. Co-written with Aya’s long time collaborator Bri Clark and co-written & produced by Pat Byrne (Beso Palma, Lola Scott, Gia Vorne), the song was inspired by the time preceding her sister’s passing in 2021. The track was mixed by Jordan Leonard and mastered by Andrew Edgeson at Studios 301.
“I knew back when I wrote Dear E. that it was impossible to fit a lifetime of love, now what will be a lifetime of grief, into one song. ‘P.s.’ is a reflection of that. I will always have more I wish I could have said, and forever will wish there were more memories I could have made with my sister. All I have now is the love that sometimes is too painful to carry- but that’s how I know it was real. The night before writing p.s. my sister said she was tired, that she was ready to go. I understood, even if I didn’t like it. I said she didn’t need it, but she had my permission.
I spent the majority of that writing session sitting under Pat’s studio desk crying. I really have to give credit to both Bri & Pat knowing how to work the delicate balance of approaching writing personal songs with such sensitivity and care. I’m honoured to have them as both close friends and collaborators who held the space for me that day – and helped me get what I wanted to say in the right words.
We did the vocals in one take into a shitty sm57 instrument mic, assuming we’d re-track them later. When it came to finishing the song months later, I knew I wouldn’t be able to recreate the emotion from that day, so the demo vocals are what you’re hearing now. When we finished the demo, it didn’t have a title yet. The same night I showed a friend and they said it gave them ‘Dear E.’ vibes – that’s when I decided to call it p.s.
P.s. gives me a space to let myself feel every bit of it when I need to- now I hope it can do the same for anyone else who might need it. “

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
