Melbourne artist Baby Velvet has delivered a live performance of single ‘Best In Show’, which is featured on her recently released debut album Please Don’t Be In Love With Someone Else out now via ABC Music.
Explaining the track, Hannah says ‘This tune is about my favourite romance, someone who filled my life with magic and adventure, laughter and joy but also happened to be in an open marriage. I play this song with Exes as well as on my own and the gals were there during that relationship and helped craft the song into what you hear today. I was listening to so much Shovels & Rope at the time and I wanted to write a song that hopefully exclaimed to listeners the raw emotions I was feeling about this deep love but also deep complication’
The clip, shot at The Forum Arcade where Baby Velvet writes, rehearses, and watches movies on the projector, was recorded/mixed by James Gilligan and shot by Nick McKinlay. “Our little community hub so was only right to film this video here. I am so excited to share a video that highlights my incredible band and the musicians/humans that they are!’ Hannah says.
Baby Velvet has added a string of new shows to her east coast album tour including Brisbane, Canberra and Beechworth. Today she has also announced that her Melbourne and Sydney shows will be all-inclusive as she gears up to share the stage with an Auslan interpreter in both cities.
Throughout her years of being a musician, Hannah has formed beautiful relationships within the music community and upon the release of her album she had enlisted some of her muso friends to share their own interpretations of the singles. From here the cover series was born, where each week she will share a cover on her socials starting with ‘What The Hell Is Wrong With Me’ by Jacob Snider.

‘I am incredibly lucky to be surrounded by a wonderful community of musicians and friends! Prior to the album being released I made a Song Book (all the songs transcribed into piano sheet music) and sent them to some friends to do a cover of a song they hadn’t heard yet. It was a beautiful project and I’m going to start releasing these tracks weekly on my socials!”

Please Don’t Be In Love With Someone Else delves in to the complexities of love, life, and adulthood across its 10 tracks. Baby Velvet looks inward as she reflects on heartbreak and making the same mistakes, self-doubt, and the darker realities of being a touring musician.
