Adelaide rock band Bad//Dreems have announced their new album ‘HOO HA!’ will be released on 19th May 2023. The new single from the album ‘See You Tomorrow’ is out today.

What does a warrior do without a war to fight? He yells the weeks headlines down the wire of the UHF with blaring static as his only response. Bad//Dreems deliver something akin to the unnerving 15 minute cameo of Lieutenant Bill Kilgore in Apocalypse Now with ‘See You Tomorrow’.

However, replace Robert Duvall with a meth’d up Australian tradie fresh from an early knock, and switch the beaches of Vietnam with the dankness of Hindley Street at 1am on a Saturday.

Like a history lesson on speed, vocalist Ben Marwe spews out irrational one liners that spar with each other, ducking and diving between references of childhood memories, Eastern Russia, and Channel 7’s ‘Kochie’. Picture Jackson Pollocks version of a WWF ‘Royal Rumble’ taking place on a football oval in Coober Pedy, then Mötorhead and Sleaford Mods made a soundtrack inspired by the painting‘See You Tomorrow’ is what it would sound like.

Filmed on a farm in the rural suburb of Glenorie, NSW, the video for ‘See You Tomorrow’ captures the chaos perfectly. Shot by award winning cinematographer Tyson Perkins, the clip dives headfirst into the irreverent themes put on offer by the lyrical content within the song.

The brainchild of young director Kaius Potter, the film clip draws on themes of cultural mockery through crafted visuals that are symbolic of dream-like theatrical installations. Hooded teens, a mobility scooter, a pokie machine and “cock-and-ball” tattoos serve as markers of a fully charged, unflinching bullseye of a film clip. See You Tomorrow won’t I? Check it out below.

Drawing on their myriad strengths and influences for album number four, Bad//Dreems have emerged from the morass of these past few years to deliver one of their most immediate, vital, and confident records to date in ‘HOO HA!’.

Recorded at Melbourne’s Soundpark Studios in early 2022 with Dan Luscombe (The Drones, The Blackeyed Susans) on production, and Andrew ‘Idge’ Hehir in the engineer’s chair, fans were given a taste of ‘HOO HA!’ in mid-2022 by way of ‘Mansfield 6.0’ which touched on anti-lockdown protests and the 2021 Victorian earthquake, before following things up with ‘Jack’, a passionate track which spoke to Australia’s deliberate erasure of Indigenous history and identity. “If the truth is going to be told, then white Australia will have to listen,” Cameron said upon its release.

Having spent 2022 embarking upon widespread touring, including a trek throughout the Northern Territory with Black Rock Band for Guts touring, Bad//Dreems have entered their new era with a newfound sense of confidence; the confidence to express what they want, to sound how they want, and to speak up about what matters to them.

Launching their HOO HA! Podcast in the last months of the year gave Bad//Dreems another platform to listen and share conversations with a number of First Nations figures, shining a light on the country’s untold stories. Guests including senior culture man, songwriter and musician from Central Arnhem Land Victor Rostron and legend AFL 300 gamer Michael O’Loughlin tell inspirational stories about their lives. There will be more episodes of the HOO HA! Podcast through 2023.

More than ten years into their career, Adelaide’s Bad//Dreems have an energy that most bands rarely manage to attain. Passionate, powerful, and pertinent, HOO HA! Is a sign of what’s to come for the group, and an indication that things will never lessen in intensity. “We’re in this for the long haul, and we don’t ever want to start going through the motions,” Cameron notes. “Nor do we ever want to stop.”
