After months of mounting anticipation, six-time ARIA Award winner and proud Yolŋu artist Baker Boy has finally unveiled his long-awaited new album DJANDJAY (pron. Jan-jay) out today on Island Records/Universal Music.
From a show-stopping performance of ‘THICK SKIN’ at the AFL Grand Final to last night’s sold-out album launch at THE NIGHT CAT in Melbourne, the lead-up to the release of DJANDJAY has been capped off with glowing reviews from across the board.
Shares Baker Boy, “DJANDJAY is me stepping into a new era, owning my music, my art and my direction, this body of work is wholly me and everything I stand for. It’s proud, it’s Blak, it’s vulnerable, it’s angry, it’s nuanced. I’m here to show everyone that I’m more than what they expect of me.”
Today, also sees the release of the final video lifted from DJANDJAY; the fifth in a five-part visual series filmed within the historic Werribee Mansion and directed by Aurie Indianna and Jordan Ruyi Blanch. ‘Running Low’ featuring US rapper Pardyalone is one of the highlights lifted from the album. A track that floats on an infectious, melodic hook but carries a deeper weight underneath of burnout, grief, and distance from home. “I was talking about being on the road, the pressure to create — but also the sacrifice of living away from community, of missing funerals and carrying that weight,” Baker Boy says. “It was a favourite from the demo, originally, I sang the hook, but bringing in Pardyalone gave it this crazy energy. His voice just hits.”
The accompanying video delivers a haunting solo performance from Baker Boy as he runs through the mansion, grappling with its ghosts – a powerful metaphor for the absence of truth-telling and Indigenous perspectives in colonial histories.

‘DJANDJAY’ is Baker Boy’s most emotionally layered and creatively evolved work to date. Named in honour of his late grandmother, ‘DJANDJAY’ also pays homage to the Yolŋu spiritual figure of the same name: a guiding octopus spirit that leads souls forward. Blending ancestral influences with sharp-edged global production, the new album folds in Yolŋu Matha, English, and Burarra across a dynamic soundscape that spans hip-hop, punk, gospel, and electronic textures.
The 14-track ‘DJANDJAY’ album includes previously released singles ‘THICK SKIN’ ft. Thelma Plum, Emma Donovan, Kee’ahn & Jada Weazel, ‘PEACEKEEPER’, ‘FREAK OUT’ feat. Briggs and Haiku Hands, and ‘LIGHTNING’ feat. REDD.
To celebrate the release of ‘DJANDJAY’, Baker Boy has announced two instores this weekend –
RECORD PARADISE in BRUNSWICK on Saturday (12 – 2.30pm) and
HUM on King in NEWTOWN on Sunday (12 – 2.30pm)
The Fresh Prince of Arnhem Land will meet fans and sign vinyl and exclusive posters. For Sydney, Baker Boy will treat fans to an instore solo performance of songs from his new album.

AMNPLIFY – DB

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
