Hot off her performance at Hidden Lanes Festival, prolific collaborator and Brisbane pop empress Beks releases a blockbuster music video to accompany her anti-love anthem, ‘Devoted’, premiered via Pilerats.
A lighthearted take on six films, the video includes iconic scenes from Titanic, Dirty Dancing, Love Actually, The Notebook, Spiderman 2, and Ghost, retelling them with the narrative of ‘I’m not devoted to you’ – Bek’s punchy antithesis. From Rose pushing Jack into the icy water of the Atlantic Ocean to an overwhelmed Baby sprinting out of dance rehearsals with Johnny, a newly-heartbroken Beks daydreams these classics with revised bitter endings. As a queer artist, it was also important for Beks to include a diverse cast of twenty dancers, paying homage to her hometown of Brisbane, performing outside the iconic Fortitude Valley Music Hall. Each cast member was dressed in unique, up-cycled creations from Brisbane fashion designer Kimbra Lou. Beks’ also aimed to lessen her footprint and further flex her creativity, by thrifting or DIY-ing all other props and styling: “I made the door for the titanic scene out of a boggy board and cardboard. The project was fully arts and crafts home job!”, explains Beks.

Known for spoiling her fans, Beks has also planned the release of a BTS clip and a ‘Devoted’ 6-track remix pack set for release on Wednesday 22 September featuring female, UK producer, Zyra – whose breakthrough song with Odesza earned her millions of streams. To celebrate the release there will be a single launch in Beks’ hometown of Brisbane on the 27th of August at La La La Land, Fortitude Valley.
Since her single ‘Devoted’ released, it has landed on Spotify’s Fresh Finds AU & NZ, been praised by tastemakers Purple Sneakers, Amnplify, Good Call Live, and Thomas Bleach, and was described by triple j’s Declan Byrne as a ‘break up on the dance-floor’. Beks’ previous single ‘The Thing About Us’ saw a suite of successes including strong triple j Unearthed support, airplay on Ash London Live and triple j’s Home & Hosed, and was selected by Channel 7 for a national ad campaign.
