The long awaited announcement of Australian rockers Between You & Me’s second album is here today, with the band thrilled to share the forthcoming record, titled ‘Armageddon’, will be released on Friday 19th November 2021 via Hopeless Records. Arriving alongside the announcement is Between You & Me’s new single ‘Butterflies’, accompanied by an emotive music video premiering at 7pm AEST via YouTube.
Talking about the new release, frontman Jake Wilson reveals “Lyrically, ‘Butterflies’ is a song about becoming completely infatuated by someone I barely knew and my pursuit for that feeling to become mutual. Whilst it is at its core a love song; the song is also about navigating the journey of casual relationships and how feelings evolve over time.”
The creation of ‘Armageddon’ is underpinned by a string of setbacks and happenstance, beginning with the band’s tour in North America in March last year. Their plans to record their sophomore LP with Canadian producer Sam Guaiana (Silverstein, Like Pacific) following their live dates came to an abrupt halt as the global pandemic persisted, and the band were required to return home to Australia without an album and without a plan.

.
Navigating months of lockdowns and living in different states, Between You & Me eventually secured an exemption to bring Guaiana to Australia and record the album. While the 10 month delay proved initially disheartening, there’s a silver lining – Between You & Me have produced their most collaborative effort to date. With all members bringing something new to the table after a period of reflection and isolation, new themes were explored and new songs were written. With newfound perspective, Wilson remarks “If this was going to be our last ever record, I wanted it to be a body of work that I could reflect on fondly – regardless of how ‘successful’ it was.”
Across its 10 tracks, listeners will note a refinement and evolution of the band’s sound since the release of their debut record ‘Everything Is Temporary’ in 2018, as revealed in new singles ‘Supervillain’, ‘Deadbeat’, and now ‘Butterflies’.
“Whilst it took three years between releases, the journey to release ‘Armageddon’ has certainly shaped the way it sounds. The past 18 months has given us the chance to pause and reflect on the opportunities that we have in front of us. We get to write and perform music for people across the world and this release has become monumental for us. Whilst it has been an extremely difficult period for our band to navigate, ‘Armageddon’ certainly wouldn’t have turned out the way it did without all the challenges along the way.”

‘Armageddon’ was produced, engineered and mixed by Sam Guaiana (Silverstein), engineered by Jack Newlyn (Paradise Club), and mastered by Grant Berry of Fader Mastering (Stand Atlantic / Yours Truly / All Time Low).
The new release and album announcement follow the group’s second single from the album, ‘Deadbeat’, which was swiftly picked up by Triple J as a spot addition and was placed on high rotation by Triple J Unearthed, accompanied by praise and coverage from the likes of BLUNT Magazine, NME, Music Feeds, Tone Deaf, Wall of Sound, LiveWire AU and more. ‘Deadbeat’ has clocked over 100,000 streams and landed immediate playlisting support from Spotify’s New Music Friday AU/NZ, New Noise, All New Rock, New Punk Tracks, FORYOU, Rock Out and more.
With their influences ranging from blink-182, Foo Fighters, The 1975 and Hanson, Between You & Me have proved sonically versatile while moving from strength to strength. It’s this trait, combined with the band’s explosive live shows and infectious energy, that has seen them ink a deal with LA based alternative music label Hopeless Records, and conquer stages across Australia, USA, Europe and the UK. Their growing resume includes touring with the likes of The Maine, Neck Deep, Waterparks and Tonight Alive, alongside a performance at the renowned UK festival, Slam Dunk.

Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
