Five of Australia’s most distinctive and celebrated voices will come together in May 2019 to celebrate the music of singer, songwriter, musician, poet and literary genius Bob Dylan. This musical event will take place on the 10th May at The Palais, Melbourne and the 24th May at State Theatre, Sydney. Tickets on pre-sale from Friday, 18th January.
John Waters, Glenn Shorrock, Wendy Mathews, Doug Parkinson and Wes Carr will take to the stage, performing and interpreting some of the great songs from the Bob Dylan songbook. From Blowin’ in the Wind to Like A Rolling Stone, Hurricane to Knocking on Heaven’s Door – songs that have defined a generation, created a movement for change and went on to influence generations of writers and artists since the mid-20th century.
Dylan’s impact on popular culture cannot be disputed. Since his early releases in the 1960s, his music and songwriting have held a mirror to the changing political, cultural and social world we live in – the civil rights movement of the 1960s, the anti-war movement, world political movements and events; and was at the forefront of popularizing ‘folk music’ as a genre. In 2012, Dylan received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and in 2016, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition”. More than 50 years since he started his career, Dylan continues to write, record and tour and is widely recognized as one of America’s most important cultural figures.
Music fans will rejoice in this event that showcases the Dylan’s extensive repertoire. Each artist – John Waters, Glenn Shorrock, Wendy Matthews, Doug Parkinson and Wes Carr – is a staunch Dylan fan and will bring their own interpretation to each song. This is a special and unmissable event.

“Dylan got to me (or I got to him) straight away – no filter. I told my friends there was this guy in the states who picks an acoustic guitar and sings through his nose. I also heard him do a ‘talking blues’, and the hipness of that got me in.” – John Waters
“’Blowing in the Wind’ was a game changer for me along with ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ and ‘Please Please Me’. I became a “Folkie“ for awhile. I heard Peter Paul and Mary and Bob at the same time…both versions moved me and still do and Bob continues his mystical musical journey. I’m looking forward to “touching the hem of his garment” again, as part of the upcoming concerts.” – Glenn Shorrock
“Bob Dylan’s music reluctantly sparked a generation that began to question and shift the whole world. I am excited to be a part of this special event, and honoured to perform and celebrate these classic songs with iconic singers and an extraordinary band.” – Wendy Matthews
“From the early 60’s when he first came to prominence, Dylan’s lyrics transcended boy/girl romantic innuendo and drew inspiration from classic literature and poetry. He set the new standard for lyric writing. History has revealed him to be a visionary artist,” – Doug Parkinson
“Falling in love with Dylan is like falling in love with many artists at one time. From “Free-wheelin” to “bringing it all back home” – to “blonde on blonde” it all made so much sense to me. He lived in a great time when albums were a body of work, and the artist had the freedom to push their own boundaries, and create works that made statements and reflected the ethos of the time.” – Wes Carr
