Austin, Texas based prog/funk/rock collective GRANDMASTER today release their anticipated debut self-titled album. The album can be streamed and purchased HERE.

Your muse may be a divinity, a lover, a friend, or nature itself. For the 11-piece collective GRANDMASTER, who combine lush harmonies with analog synths, blended with vaporous guitar, disco beats, and alternately skyscraping and soulful vocals in their new music, it’s an immortal dimension-hopping ancient composer with whom they share their name and have pledged their undying allegiance to.

The cohort of seasoned musicians proudly rallies as the Grandmaster’s “Zealots,” performing his “ritualistic funk” compositions as their songs. As the story goes, co-founders Nick Leon, Blaise Eldred, and Connor Mizell met as teens in Texas. Unlocking a lifelong creative bond, they went on to record and perform around Austin in local favorites such as Sexpop, Lick Neon, and Acid Carousel. Following the dissolution of the latter, Leon, Eldred, and Mizell feverishly wrote and recorded songs under the spell of “The Grandmaster.”

Produced and mixed by esteemed Austin, Texas creative Nolan Potter, the group’s ethereal sonic signature channels the sounds of inspirators Earth Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, John Williams, Parliament Funkadelic, The Bee Gees, Nolan Potter’s Nightmare Band, while also blending in classic Nintendo scores.

“This album represents the beginning of a long future, the planting of our flag into the moon, the signatures on the cosmic constitution of our existence,” states Leon.

Recently selected as Song of the Day, KUTX’s Jack Anderson praises the single “Castle Door” stating, “…with a goblet-sloshing groove, a palace-spanning chord progression, and a truly regal arrangement, “Castle Door” lowers the yacht rock drawbridge and raises the prog-funk portcullis to one hell of a good time.” Read more here KUTX, Song of the Day.
