Fresh from her national run with the Teskey Brothers, Darwin’s Caiti Baker has today unveiled ‘Gimme’, the first taste of a new batch of songs due for release later this year. She also announces her biggest solo tour yet, hitting five states and territories across September and October. While recording for her critically acclaimed debut album ‘Zinc’ last year, three tracks stood out during the process, that while not quite suiting the aesthetic of the album, took on a life and style of their own.

“These tracks seemed to push themselves in a new direction for us creatively—there were more elements of trap, synths and big bass that we were really excited about, but we knew they didn’t suit what we were going for on ‘Zinc’,” said Caiti. “We decided to come back to them later with fresh ears and that’s exactly what we did.”

Working again with producers J. Mangohig (Daniel JohnsBriggs) and Skinnyfish Music’s Michael Hohnen, the record is a further progression in the Caiti Baker sound, blending roots samples and her smoky vocal across big beats, grinding bass and relentless electronic drive, creating an infectious yet intriguing jam that boldly dares itself into your earholes. With ‘Zinc’ making ‘best of 2017’ lists from both Rolling Stone and Double J, the album redefined Australian soul music and Caiti is moving forward to now do the same with pop and urban, creating a musical palate of her own, as likely to be inhabited by Jay Z or Bjork as it is by Fiona Apple or Ella Fitzgerald.
