The Act-Belong-Commit 2018 York Festival is offering organisations the opportunity for their employees to get involved in a unique volunteering experience.

The festival has invited Japanese artist AKIRA MORIYA to travel to York to help create three sculptures in the tradition of Wara ArtWara Art started in Japan ten years ago and involves using the surplus rice straw left over from the annual harvest to create giant sculptures.  The idea has spawned Wara Art festivals all over Japan and is rapidly becoming a major tourist attraction.

While in York Mr Moriya will be overseeing the construction of three straw sculptures of endangered Australian fauna.  The sculptures will be between two and four metres high and will be constructed using locally sourced wheat straw.  All we need now are teams of volunteers to help in their construction.

How do you get involved?  Simply gather a team of up to ten participants to come to York for between two and five days between the 26thAugust and 28thSeptember 2018. No experience is necessary, just a great sense of fun, community, adventure and enquiry.  The historic town of York is a mere 100kms east Perth and is set in the beautiful Avon Valley.

If this sounds like an opportunity to good to miss, email us at [email protected].
