Whilst in the past, the pair have used upbeat arrangements to contrast a deeper, often sadder and honest lyrical content “Can’t Help The Way” is 100% fun and upbeat from its core.

“The song is actually fun and carefree and the way you feel listening to it matches. It shows a lot about our personal lives,” says Foley. “After having some rough ups and downs in relationships and friendships, we are showing a shift to a more positive and carefree time in our lives.”

Underlying the track’s upbeat and carefree summer vibes is a real message of hope and optimism that the duo want to share with their fans.

“One thing we love about pop music is packaging topics that might be really difficult to discuss in real life, into a format that allows people to come together and sing out,” says Foley. “It’s important to us to be really honest with the lyrical content because it brings about the most relatable themes and at the end of the day, we want our music to bring people together.”

The song is accompanied by a fun and colourful music video, telling the story of unattainable love with energy and Foley’s own quirky twist.

Foley formed in 2017 as the passion project between two best friends, Ash and Gabriel, and that friendship continues to be one of the driving factors behind their effortless and endearing releases. Their songs are crafted together; 50/50, with neither party more important than the other. In a male-dominated industry where female vocalists are often commodified, it’s an important distinction to make.

In late 2018, “Stranger” premiered on global tastemaker site EARMILK, and the long list of achievements that followed is proof that going against the grain works. Foley’s two previous singles both received extensive radio love from NZ’s biggest stations – securing playlist positions on The Edge, ZM, More FM & George FM. “Stranger” & “Talk About It” both hits were top 10 on the Official NZ Hot 20 chart, while “Talk About It” maintained charting for 4 consecutive weeks and became the 3rd most-added Kiwi single to radio during release week.
