Sydney based indie pop-duo Cat & Calmell release their highly anticipated mixtape LIVE LAUGH COOL STAR. The release comes off the back of singles ‘Cool Star’,‘Hotness!!!’ and ‘Pop Music Feat. Cult Shφtta’, as well as the pair’s performance on triple j ‘Like A Version’ covering ‘4ever’ by the Veronicas, which amassed over 1 millionviews in its first week across all platforms.

Built around themes of perception vs. reality, celebrity culture, financial struggle, and hedonism as both a performance and a cope, LIVE LAUGH COOL STAR captures the surreal pressure of looking “put together” when you’re barely holding on. It’s the duo at their most honest and most unhinged, blending club gloss with real-life struggle and satire.

Instead of pretending everything’s fine for the sake of the “pop star illusion,” Cat & Calmell confront the irony head-on, packaging the truth in club beats and glamour so it feels cathartic rather than bleak. LIVE LAUGH COOL STAR is their refusal to play along with other’s expectations. Instead of being trapped in a narrative, they wrote their way out — claiming their story and telling it exactly how it feels from the inside.

Alongside the release of the mixtape comes the horror movie themed video for ‘Rot’, a sharply self-aware, darkly funny, and deeply relatable snapshot of a generation partying at the edge of burnout. The video, co-directed by Charles Buxton-Leslie (Nick Ward, DMA’S) and Kyle Caulfield (G-Flip), sees the pair throwing a party in an abandoned house, as they become zombie-like versions of themselves, a perfect visual representation of the track.
In December, Cat & Calmell will bring the LIVE LAUGH COOL STAR mixtape to life with shows in Sydney and Melbourne. The shows will feature special treats for fans, alongside a live performance of the mixtape, there will be DJ sets, MacBook photobooths, exclusive tour merch, as well as a best dressed competition.
