Sydney-based pop duo Cat & Calmell return with their new single ‘Cool Star’. Listen here
Describing the track as their “unofficial theme song” for the last year, ‘Cool Star’ was born from a conversation between Cat & Calmell, and their producer Lucy Blomkamp (6lack, Mallrat, Nick Ward) where they spoke about the reality of life as pop stars: “It’s glam in theory, so people tend to have certain expectations about how you live or what your lifestyle looks like, and it’s one which continuously proves to be far from the truth and also very humbling”.
Feeding into the perception of the popstar lifestyle, the pair explain ‘Cool Star’, is an ode to the “IT girl personas we wish we could live up to”. The accompanying video is an ironic nod to mid 2000’s Australian culture, referencing Corey Worthington, Southern Cross tattoos and more.

Bursting onto the scene in 2020 with their breakout hit ‘dumbshit’ Cat & Calmell immediately shot into the hearts and playlists of critics around the world.
A debut EP release, Dua Lipa support slot, global Netflix syncs and performances at Splendour In The Grass and Great Escape festivals showcased Cat & Calmell’s diverse range of genres and ever-evolving style to a global audience. In 2023, the pair joined Mallrat’s critically acclaimed national tour, alongside the release of their 7 track mini album ‘How Do You Feel?, complete with a short film.
2024 saw the release of ‘give urself 2 me’. To mark the occasion, the pair travelled to Europe for their debut tour, including shows in Paris, Dublin, Brighton’s ‘Great Escape’ Festival, and more.
Natural tastemakers, Cat & Calmell have featured in Vogue Australia, engaged in partnerships with The Sims, and Samsung.
Later this month, Cat & Calmell will support Camila Cabello on the Australian Leg of her ‘YOURS, C’ Tour, playing Melbourne’s Margret Court Arena, and The Horden Pavilion in Sydney. Tickets are available here
