This November join the Mighty Movember team at the Bar Open on Brunswick St, Fitzroy to celebrate men’s health and support the Movember Foundation, a global charity foundation focused solely on men’s health. November is the time to keep men in mind and participate in the Movember campaign, which challenges men to grow a moustache, men and women to get physically active and Move, or host a fundraising event – all of which spark conversations and raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health.

At this Mighty Movember event, there will be local Victorian bands performing for the crowds and helping to raise awareness for men. This includes Loose Bricks; an alternative rock/reggae band who are about to embark on their spring cleanout tour, STOKA; a Melbourne’s South East blues grunge band, and LongBoys; a five-piece surf rock band from Melbourne’s Eastern suburbs.

LOOSE BRICKS

LOOSE BRICKS are the party boys from country Victoria that bring out the best mate in everyone. With their alternative rock/reggae vibes and big smiles, the boys have been compared to the likes of Ocean Alley and Hockey Dad. The young rascals take to pen and paper to bust out the songs that mean the most to them – stories of home, family, mates, and making it through the day. They created their appropriately named debut EP, Treasure, and have since released 2 new singles for their upcoming EP set to be out late 2018. The boys have supported the likes of Boo Seeka, Kingswood, Bad Pony, Good Doogs and The Grogans. Now go get stuck in to a stubby and enjoy Mildura’s finest.

STOKA

Bursting out of Melbourne’s South East with bone thumping blues grunge is STOKA. Likened to a melting pot filled with Kings of Leon, Ocean Alley and Sticky Fingers, STOKA has been leaving audiences breathless with their raw, ephemeral sound, and carving their way onto the Australian music scene. Touring with the likes of BOO SEEKA and Goldmember, and playing sold out shows with Bootleg Rascal, Caravana Sun and The Lulu Raes, STOKA are one of the most scintillating, raw talents around.

LONG BOYS

In the midst of the hustle and bustle of suburbia we find a group of layabouts. In their natural habitat music is created that the local council will refer to as a “noise violation”. They soldier on. Longboys are sweeping the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, comprised of five members, Sam Craine (vocals + guitar), Sam Power (guitar), Ayrton Ganas (guitar), Jack Hetherington (bass) and John Gore (drums). LongBoys continue to change up their surf-rock sound and give off good vibes in a fun and energetic live performance. Taking inspiration from different genres the band collaborates to create all of their songs. The boys have differing taste in music, some of which include, disco, the very best of 70’s punk, classic-rock and 90s RnB groups. Every car ride’s a competition. From this, the band is able to bring in different kinds of genre aspects to their songs. LongBoys began nearly 2 years ago, since the beginning, the band have changed in multiple forms, through the maturing of their musical sound, selling out shows and artistic development.

Throughout the night there will be competitions which allow all attendees the chance to win unique prizes. Mighty Movember is a night to celebrate the men we have in our lives and we would love your help to donate and support and raise awareness men’s health.

The Movember Foundation has one goal: to stop men dying too young. As the only global charity tackling men’s health issues year-round, the foundation supports the following causes: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention. Since 2003, the support of more than 5 million men and women has funded over 1,200 innovative projects across more than 20 countries. To donate or learn more, please visit Movember.com.

Come down to Bar Open on November 22nd to see local bands, Loose Bricks, STOKA and LongBoys play for the crowds and support men’s health. Throughout the night there will be competitions to reward those who get the most creative with their mo’s. Lets celebrate the men in our life and enjoy Movember together.
