Fresh off the back of releasing her epic Coke Studio collaboration with Tones And I and Young Franco, as well as performing shows around the world, including SXSW Austin, New York, London and a pop-up performance at Nandos Chicken Shop Sessions in Melbourne, Persian-New Zealand artist and producer, CHAII, releases her debut album Safar, alongside new single ‘We Be Killing It’.
‘We Be Killing It’ is the fifth song CHAII has released from her debut album, and follows on from hits like ‘Night Like This’, ‘Fun’, ‘Main Thing’ and ‘Drippin In Gold’.

Produced with long-term collaborator and life partner, Frank Keys, CHAII tells us that “‘Safar’ means journey in Farsi (Persian) and if I had a soundtrack to my life it would be track 1-12, in that order. The journey of moving from Iran to New Zealand at a young age and continuing to have a connection to my culture through my music has been a big part of my life. I spent the last 3 years working on ‘Safar’ and it’s hugely inspired by both Persian music and Hip Hop. While the mix of those two might not completely represent either genre clearly, it represents me as someone in between the two worlds. 15 years ago, I told my school music teacher that I was going to mix Persian and Western music together and since then I’ve continuously experimented and had fun with it, while going through different phases of my life at the same time. For example, ‘Drippin In Gold’ is about staying laser-focused on my dreams and giving back to my parents for the sacrifices they’ve made for us, ‘Main Thing’ is a reminder to celebrate your wins, while ‘Night Like This’ deals with the duality of desire for social connection and solitude. The lead single ‘We Be Killing it’ is about being your own boss and having your day ones around you, because in this industry nothing is overnight, while ‘Fun’ is a more light-hearted reminder to enjoy life through the highs, the lows and all parts of the journey.”
To accompany the album, CHAII has once again self-produced and creatively directed the DIY Guerrilla style video for ‘We Be Killing It’, alongside a crew of friends including Director and Videographer Taine Noble, who she worked closely with for the album visuals.
After returning from performing shows in London, New York, LA, SXSW Austin, Sydney and Melbourne, CHAII was invited to collaborate on a song with Tones And I and Young Franco as part of Coca-Cola’s globally renowned platform, Coke Studio. Fans can follow their journey on social media and via the Coke Studio Hub, where they’ve got unprecedented access to see the song and music video for ‘(Can’t Get You) Off My Mind’ being created from start to finish. Then to top off an already packed year, CHAII was subsequently invited to perform at the inaugural Nandos Chicken Shop Sessions in Melbourne, alongside Nina Las Vegas, Coterie and more.

In addition to the recent support from Coca-Cola and Nandos, CHAII’s songs have also been featured in soundtracks for FIFA, Fortnite and Tony Hawk, advertising campaigns for iPhone, FENDI and KIA and used in Marvel’s Ms Marvel, Inventing Anna, Wellmania and Netflix original film The Old Guard. Plus, she’s been supported heavily across both Spotify and Apple Music playlists.
Now, with her much anticipated debut album, Safar, released on Friday 16 August, CHAII is gearing up to support Tones And I at Auckland’s Town Hall on Wednesday 28 August.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
