Sydney-based singer-songwriter Charlie Collins releases her superb new album ‘Nightwriter’ today, alongside a new album focus single ‘You Might Be A Man, Just Not Man Enough’ and the announcement of Album Launch show dates commencing next month.

Featuring singles, The Hardest Part’, ‘The Last 48 Hours’, ‘Rock Bottom’ and debut single ‘Transactional Deal’, the third album from the ARIA-nominated and AIR award winning artist, was recorded in three weeks with the legendary Neil Finn and Steven Schram (Crowded House, San Cisco) at Roundhead Studios in Auckland, and mixed by Tom Iansek (Big Scary, #1 Dads).

As a collection of songs that started as late night iPhone demos, or melodies sung down the line into an answering machine from rehab, Charlie takes listeners with her, on her own personal journey; from falling into toxic relationships and pulling herself out, to the reality of being close to death from an opioid overdose, being locked up in psychiatric ward and an even longer spell getting clean, while remaining unfazed through it all. It’s an album created by someone in recovery, who at one point worried she’d never be able to write again, but in the end created her best work to date clean and sober.

The new album single ‘You Might Be A Man, Just Not Man Enough’ on the surface is about a brief intense love affair, but looking deeper it’s that search for true connection, from not trying to be fixed or changed but for being seen and understood and accepted as you are.

“I just felt like I was never going to find someone that could love me for me, and I was just this fun toy that’s exciting at the start but quickly you become tired of it. In saying that I also realised I wasn’t broken and didn’t need fixing I just needed someone to walk beside me and hold my hand so there’s a sense of empowerment amongst feeling all this emotional pain. How can someone try to understand how you feel if they don’t even know who you are,” Charlie admits.

Since the sultry, indie slow burnerTransactional Deal’ was released and her debut appearance on ABC’s Spicks & Specks in July, ‘Nightwriter’ has continued to receive praise and support from the likes of  Rolling Stone Magazine giving the album 3.5 stars, Stack Magazine “Editor’s Pick of the Month”, Women In Pop, Beat Magazine, Milky, Australian Musician, Sydney Morning Herald (SPECTRUM), The Music, Double j, 2SER, Triple R, SYNFM, 4ZZZ, FBi and ABC Local along with playlist additions on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon & YouTube/VEVO.

Charlie Collins will be hitting the road to tour her new ‘Nightwriter’ album next month, supporting Amercian indie-four piece Saint Motel next month, before playing her own headline shows in November. Charlie will also be performing at Dashville Skyline Festival in the Hunter Valley (NSW) on Friday October 3 and Good Day Sunshine on the Margaret River (WA) on November 29.

For longtime fans of Charlie, she hopes they will treat ‘Nightwriter’ as a companion piece to her first record ‘Snowpine’. For those just discovering Australia’s worst-kept, musically gifted secret, you’re in for a treat: Charlie Collins at her purest. “Neil, Schram and I built each track from the ground up. I went over there with nothing but my phone demos. I think that’s really special and comes back to turning them into bodies of work where you create the body, bone by bone. Sometimes as an artist you have to go a bit left field to figure out who you want to be,” Charlie says.” A lot of the time you end up coming back. For me, this record is my coming home.”

About Charlie Collins

Charlie Collins grew up with music-obsessed parents in the country music hub of Australia, Tamworth. Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline were main inspirations and would shape the bands Charlie played in with her siblings as well as Tigertown who toured with Panic At The Disco, Troye Sivan, Tove Lo. In 2018, she went solo, developing a singular, hard-to-pin-down sound that oscillates between different genres and distinct musical eras. Her debut album Snowpine (2019) was nominated for Best Country Album at the ARIA awards and won the Best Independent Country Album AIR Award in 2020. In 2022 Charlie released her sophomore album Undone, which was also nominated for Best Blues + Roots Album at the ARIA awards. Charlie has previously supported Orville Peck, Gang of Youths, Sam Fender and Waxahatchee. Previous Festival appearances include Laneway, Fairgrounds, Woodford Festival, Splendour In The Grass, CMC Rocks. Charlie has also previously written/worked with Sydney songwriter Xavier Dunn (Jack River, GRAACE), Japanese Wallpaper Jarryd James, Kasey Chambers, Justin Tranter and Neil Finn.
