After a year of uncertainty, Nick Murphy addressed the future’s ambivalence head-on with his highly acclaimed single “Whatever Tomorrow”. In support on the emphatic return of the Chet Faker project comes a remix of the highest calibre. Soulwax take hold of the latest single and run it into a downtempo exploration.

Nick Murphy on the remix, “I think I like it better than mine.”

Soulwax then countered; “We agree, we think our version is better ;).”

Since 1995, David and Stephen Dewaele have consistently pushed the boundaries of music into a new and innovative territory by diversifying into many different guises. For this iteration, Soulwax do what they do best in a total re-imagining of the single. Their remix unfolds into an incredible atmosphere-building cut held true by a distinctively Soulwax bass-line paired with Murphy’s vocal. The combination of two artists known for their unique pallets has culminated in a stunning new offering destined for great things.

Signing to BMG last year, Melbourne-raised, New-York based revived the Chet Faker moniker in October 2020 after six years with the release of “Low”. The soothing track led to a sophomore live appearance on NBC’s The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and a #70 triple j Hottest 100 spot, reaffirming an artistry and vision that is both vulnerable and emotionally connecting. Murphy’s follow-up single, “Get High” further contributed to the artist project, which sits at over a billion combined streams. To date, both singles have racked up over 11 million streams on Spotify alone, landed hundreds of placements on prominent playlists across Apple Music, Spotify and Amazon Music, and drawn widespread attention from around the globe including the likes of Rolling Stone, Hypebeast, NME, Uproxx, Consequence of Sound and more.

The Chet Faker project launched to worldwide acclaim in the early 2010s with a handful of EPs—including a collaborative volume with then-breaking Flume—covers and remixes. His 2014 debut album, Built on Glass, won five ARIAs, topped charts worldwide and earned the #1 spot on triple j’s Hottest 100 that year. Under his own name, Murphy has released the 2017 EP Missing Link, 2019’s much lauded studio album Run Fast Sleep Naked and an ambient record, Music For Silence, first premiered on the meditation app Calm in March 2020.

Tune into Soulwax’s remix of “Whatever Tomorrow” as we take one step closer to Hotel Surrender’s release this July.
