British newcomer Congee has today released his debut EP Kwong alongside the animated music video for Forever.
If you haven’t yet been introduced to Congee, Forever is a compelling starting point. The alt-pop track’s immediately addictive pulsating propulsion is further flavoured by his ear for esoteric production and a vocal that incorporates broad pop appeal with spirited soul.
“Forever is a song where I talk about love. The excitement of it. The confusion of it. Sometimes the lack of it. I’m still trying to get my head around it,” Congee explains.
The song’s video, animated by Congee’s regular visual collaborator Calum Heath, depicts a boy who is attempting to learn to fly. His discovery – that you have to commit to the challenge and then hope for the best outcome – makes for a strong metaphor for love in all of its forms.

The Kwong EP is completed by three new tracks. Opener This Is Me is a pep talk to himself and anyone who regularly doubts themselves or, as he puts it so effectively in the song, “Putting on a show for all my insecurities.” The other two songs, Left Around and Bao provide more streamlined counterpoints to the rich layers of the rest of the set, with Bao improvised in just one take.
Almost entirely written, produced and performed solely by Congee, the Kwong EP allows him to put the emotions he discusses on the backburner and provide a warm, sonic comfort for others who are going through similar things. His rise will surely continue with his second EP, which is already in the works.
Congee’s first two singles, Be Alright and Honest, have seen the in demand collaborator (Griff, Sigrid, Fred Again.., Ed Sheeran) step out of the production shadows to forge his own artist career. Setting tender-hearted themes of the nuances of family love to an exploratory genre-splicing sound, he has immediately established himself as an essential rising talent. Almost every tastemaker is recognising his huge potential, spanning streaming (Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music), radio (Radio 1, BBC Music Introducing in London) and press (The Fader, DIY, Dork, Notion, The Independent, Clash, The Line Of Best Fit, Wonderland, Colors and The Sunday Times).

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
