Today Campbelltown Art Centre’s Conscious project welcomes four new artists into a year-long professional artist development program: Clarissa Mei, Givitimy, P.Smid and Saif.
With mentoring and guidance from Sydney producer / hip hop artist and Conscious Artistic Director, L-FRESH The LION, each artist will release a new single over the next 12 months with support from Village Boy Entertainment.
L-FRESH The LION said: “I’m excited for the return of Conscious in what has been an unpredictable and tumultuous 2021. We’ve added 4 new artists to our Conscious community cohort. We’ll be working closely with each artist around creating and releasing a new single. We recognise the challenges of being an artist during a global pandemic and with that front of mind, Conscious’ individually tailored professional career development approach will continue to get behind some of the finest emerging talent that Western Sydney has to offer.”
Launched in 2019, Conscious is an annual year-long professional artist development program supporting the career pathways for socially minded hip hop artists with connections to Western Sydney. The program aims to build a family of artists and collaborators within the region, passing on experience and knowledge to strengthen the hip hop community while supporting local artists to realise their goals and potential.
Michael Dagostino, Director of Campbelltown Arts Centre said: “At C-A-C our priority is supporting artists through artist-led programming and sharing new experiences with communities. Conscious is grounded by the narrative of the artists and realising the next steps in their career through the support of industry knowledge. It’s been wonderful to see the Western Sydney hip hop community strengthen and unify through the program.”
Two groups of artists have participated in the program to date including 2019 alumni: Becca Hatch, Jessica Jade, Mirrah, Nardean and Zeadala and 2020 alumni: A.GIRL, Slim Set, Spvrrow and T Breezy.
Supported by the Conscious program, Becca Hatch produced her 2019 single ‘Brown Girl Chronicles’, A.GIRL produced a music video for her 2020 single ‘LOLA’ and Jessica Jade released her debut EP in 2020, ‘BET’. Since then, these artists have gone on to receive support from the likes of triple j, triple j Unearthed, FBi Radio, Rage, MTV and more.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
