Today, multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated rock band Counting Crows release their long-awaited new album, Butter Miracle, The Complete Sweets! – their first studio album in over 11 years.
Marking their first full-length studio release since 2021’s critically acclaimed Butter Miracle: Suite One EP, the album builds upon its predecessor’s narrative thread with nine emotionally resonant tracks that reflect frontman Adam Duritz’s deeply personal song writing and the band’s signature blend of rock, folk and alternative influences.
Lead single ‘Spaceman in Tulsa’ introduces the band’s new chapter with poetic lyricism and a fresh sonic edge. It explores finding identity in places where you feel like you don’t belong, and how music can be a transformative refuge. The track was one of several inspired by the artist’s reflections on friends, distance, identity and reconnection – themes that flow throughout the album.

Through ‘With Love, From A-Z’, Duritz delivers a wistful reflection on the past in what he calls “a portrait of the artist as a middle-aged man,” capturing the challenges of maintaining love and friendship amid a life spent on the road, while songs like ‘Boxcars’ and ‘Angel of 14th Street’ delve into the societal fractures and cruelty experienced by marginalized communities, drawing parallels between present-day injustice and historic persecution.
‘Virginia Through the Rain’ offers a more introspective lens, focusing on the personal failures of a flawed narrator, while ‘Bobby & The Rat-Kings’ offers a love letter to the formative power of music fandom. Closing the album, ‘Under The Aurora’, is a sweeping piano-led reflection that balances the loneliness and urgency of the past few years with hope for deeper connection, harking back to the timeless storytelling, raw emotion and rich melodies that Counting Crows have become famous for.
For more than three decades, Grammy and Academy Award-nominated rock band Counting Crows have enchanted listeners worldwide with their intensely soulful and intricate take on timeless rock n’ roll. Since their 1993 multi-platinum breakout album, August and Everything After, the band have gone on to release seven studio albums, selling more than 20 million records worldwide, and are revered as one of the world’s most pre-eminent live touring rock bands.

In October 1996, the band’s double-platinum sophomore studio album, Recovering the Satellites, debuted at #1 and further solidified their growing reputation as one of the leading American alternative rock bands in the world. Following up their early success, Counting Crows went on to release This Desert Life (1999), Hard Candy (2002), Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings (2008), Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did on Our Summer Vacation) (2012), Echoes of the Outlaw Roadshow (2013) and Somewhere Under Wonderland (2014) to much acclaim.
In 2004, Counting Crows also recorded the chart-topping ‘Accidentally in Love’ for the animated motion picture Shrek 2. The instant success of the track earned them an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song at the 2005 Academy Awards, a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song, and a Grammy Award nomination for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.
More recently, the band ranked #8 on Billboard’s ‘Greatest of All Time: Adult Alternative Artists’ in 2021, the same year that Counting Crows released Butter Miracle: Suite One to rave reviews, while also kicking off a global tour with sell-out performances across North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
