The tenth and final single to be released from Crystal Cities sophomore album is titled “Liebling Girl” (“Liebling” is of German origin and translates to “darling” in English). The song showcases a more vulnerable and tender side of Geoff Rana’s songwriting.
Sydney-based alternative dream rock band Crystal Cities knew from the very start of 2020 that they wanted to release their 10-track second album as individual singles. Since August 26th of that year the band has been consistently dropping single-after-single and delivering quality music for their fans and music critics alike.
As previously mentioned, “Liebling Girl” is the tenth and final single to be released from the band’s sophomore LP Hold Me Close Hold Me Tight. In that sense it’s a celebratory release for the band. It sounds like it too. The song marches along steadily with much fanfare and joy, uplifting the listener with the sound of horns and washy guitars. The track celebrates the joy of love and the strength and power of the divine feminine and the protective maternal energy that comes with it.
“‘Liebling Girl’ tells the story of how I met my wife. I was moving into a share house with some mates and, at the last minute, one of those mates pulled out. We were left without a third housemate so we needed to quickly find someone else to take his spot. We put an ad in the local paper and had a number of replies. However, it was a young German girl on a working holiday who took the room and moved in. Little did I know that destiny’s plan was in motion and after a few months our relationship became more than just roommates. ‘Liebling Girl’ takes you through the journey from my perspective, from this person becoming my roommate to becoming my wife.” - Geoff Rana (vocals/guitar/keys)
Crystal Cities will now re-package each song as one full body of work that will be their sophomore album, Hold Me Close Hold Me Tight.
With the helping hand of world-renowned LA-based mix engineer Paul Lani (David Bowie, Prince, Megadeath), Rana and co have dealt fans a sharper and more hard-hitting Crystal Cities sound while still maintaining the signature ‘Dream Rock’ elements that they established in their 2019 debut Under the Cold Light of the Moon.
“Liebling Girl” will be available on all digital platforms at midnight 30th Oct, 2021
This is the tenth (and final) single to be lifted from the band’s second album Hold Me Close Hold Me Tight
