The wait is finally over. Australia’s dark-pop princess CXLOE today releases her debut body of work; a six-track EP titled Heavy Part One – out now via Sandlot Records/AWAL.

Expressing her excitement for the release, CXLOE explains, “Having my debut EP, Heavy Part One, out in the world is so exciting and therapeutic for me as an artist. I have been working on these songs over the past couple of years and I finally feel after years of self-reflection, that they each individually represent such an important part of myself.”

On Heavy Part One, CXLOE has defined herself both personally and artistically with the adoption of a dual experience. On the EP, she showcased two distinct personas – CXLOE and Chloe. CXLOE is characterised by darkness, complexity, depth, sharpness and extremes while Chloe is warm, organic, vulnerable, wholesome, and stripped-back. By establishing these personas, CXLOE/Chloe has offered herself acceptance and permission to be complex and multifaceted, with a hope that others feel inspired to do the same. “It’s nice to finally let these internal battles and struggles go and celebrate the fact that these struggles make me who I am,” she expresses.

In tandem with the EP release, CXLOE has revealed her next focus single ‘Swing’ alongside a stunning visual directed by Femme TV, the team behind her ‘Heavy’ video. ‘Swing’ stands as the fourth release from and fourth track on Heavy Part One. “‘Swing’ is about my ever-changing emotions. Like a pendulum, I swing,” CXLOE describes, adding, “As a creative we often feel too much and this can be very debilitating.”

To celebrate the release of the EP, CXLOE performed an original and a cover for triple j Like A Version this morning. She and her band performed ‘12 Steps’, the first single to be revealed from Heavy Part One, alongside a captivating and epic rendition of The Cranberries’ ‘Zombie’.

Nothing 2020 has thrown at CXLOE has stopped her from pushing forward. In July she revealed ‘12 Steps’, a single that sees CXLOE step up to the plate to attack the inhibitive and often taboo subject of addiction. A subject achingly close to her own heart, CXLOE pledged her first week of single sales to Lifeline. ‘One and Lonely’ followed, a song about the loneliness of being away from the one you love. “I spend a majority of the year away from my partner, and it always weighs on me heavily. This song talks about the endless flights and sleepless nights away from each other and how heavy this feeling is,” CXLOE explains.

The semi-title track ‘Heavy’ was revealed last month. “The song talks about a relationship that was once light and full of love but now carries too much weight to handle. I feel this extreme switch with a lot of things in my life and most of the time it’s self-sabotage. Another beautiful trait of mine,” she describes of ‘Heavy’. Rounding out the EP are ‘Plans’, about having no plans, finding your soulmate and discovering comfort and contentment in doing nothing together, and ‘Creature’ – a song about how inherently animalistic we are and how hard it is to fight habits that make us feel whole.

The six tracks that make up Heavy Part One speak to either one of the personas – CXLOE or Chloe – and have allowed the young artist a chance to understand herself more fully. Each track has toppled into the next somewhat organically to ultimately produce what we are gifted today – a fully-formed, thematic EP in Heavy Part One“I wasn’t exactly writing these songs with an EP in mind, but when I look back I can see that all of them have a similar tone and message, they all felt quite “heavy” and I knew it was the right time to release my first body of work,” CXLOE explains. On the EP CXLOE has teamed up with co-writers Michael Pollack, The Futuristics, Trey Campbell, Kito, Casey Smith, Boyboy to name a few, and has enlisted Andrew Wells across production (Halsey, Bebe Rexha) with Michael Freeman adding mixing finesse to the final product.

Since her debut single ‘Tough Love’ in 2017, CXLOE has delighted fans, media and tastemakers across 10 singles including ‘Low Blow’, ‘I Can’t Have Nice Things’, ‘SICK’, ‘Show You’ and a collaborative single in August this year with US production lords Cheat Codes on ‘Between Our Hearts’. She boasts writing credits with the likes of Andrew Wells (Bebe Rexha), Sam Farrar (Maroon 5), The Futuristics (Selena Gomez), MAG (Bebe Rehxa, Zara Larsson, Astrid S), BOYBOY, Louis Schoorl (5SOS, Charlotte Lawrence), Justin Tranter (Julia Michaels) and Ross Golan (Ariana Grande) to name but a few.

To date, CXLOE has amassed more than 35 million streams, 5 million of which come directly from the USA, and received enviable international attention across countless global playlists including 49 global New Music Fridays on Spotify and covers of Front Left on Spotify and The A-List Pop and Future Hits on Apple Music to name but a few. Support and critical acclaim has seen CXLOE receive airplay and coverage from triple j, all pop-leaning commercial radio stations across Australia and across global titles such as Billboard, CLASH, The Line Of Best Fit, LADYGUNN, V Magazine, Refinery29, VOGUE Australia, and countless more.
