Melbourne-via-East Kimberly rapper, songwriter, storyteller and proud Noongar man, DALLAS WOODS today shares new single, ‘Heaven Of My Own feat. Miiesha’. Premiered on triple j, the song was produced by Pip Norman (aka Countbounce) at his Meliodora Studio in Northcote, VIC. Lyrically, the track is Dallas at his most vulnerable, backed by a classic 90’s hip-hop-style beat and joined by ARIA nominated RnB powerhouse and proud Pitjantjatjara and Torres Strait Islander woman, Miiesha. Dallas shares: “I was hooked as soon as I heard this beat from Pip Norman (aka Countbounce). I had been dealing with some demons when I heard it for the first time but was finally starting to see progress in my healing journey and resonated with it melodically and lyrically.

I’ve always had too much pride when it came to being honest about my demons because I felt it was taboo for men to show emotion and ask for help, which is the furthest thing from the truth. I just tried to channel the positive energy from all the things that I had been doing to get better physically and mentally and really ask questions of myself, which then allowed me to dig deeper into what heaven would look like to me. I’d just love people to embrace the positive energy this song creates!”

The track follows on from recent Baker Boy and Sampa The Great collab, ‘Better Days’ and this year’s ‘If It Glitters It’s Gold’: an explosive single, which was added to high rotation on triple j and earned plaudits with both fans and media alike including NME Australia, Pilerats and Purple Sneakers.

Having always adopted a “no holding back” approach to songwriting, the 26 year old uses wit and wordplay to get his messages out, weaving comments on big issues into rapid-fire rhymes. His three previous singles, ‘9 Times Out Of 10’, ‘Hoodlum’ and ‘Chapter One’ spoke about the justice system and racial stereotyping, while his earlier Baker Boy collaboration ‘Black Magic’ stormed in with bravado and Blak pride. 

Since releasing his first single in 2018, Dallas has been named triple j Unearthed’s Indigenous Artist Of The Year, dubbed “powerful” and “blistering” by triple j tastemakers, and enjoyed high rotation on the station. He’s received praise and support from FBi, Triple R, The West Australian, Acclaim Mag and Junkee, among others, and performed to huge crowds at the National Indigenous Music Awards, Bluesfest, Groovin the Moo Bendigo and at the Forum Theatre in Melbourne, where he stepped up to support Sampa the Great. In 2019, he contributed to Red Bull’s 64 Bars series delivering an incendiary three-minute rap about his hometown, which has now pulled in over 300,000 views on YouTube and featured in their Australian hip-hop documentary series, This Is Home (see here).
