SEX-O-SONIQUE’s
classic
‘I THOUGHT IT WAS YOU’

Spanish housemaster David Penn returns with a roof-raising new rework of Sex-O-Sonique’s (Michael Gray & Jon Pearn) ‘I Thought It Was You’, as a joint release on London Records and Central Station Records.
In the first of many joint releases from London Records and Central Station Records, David Penn’s floor filling rework of ‘I Thought It Was You’ is already a club favourite. The original Sex-O-Sonique release went to #32 on the U.K singles pop chart in 1997, and this rework only adds to the track’s appeal: Penn brings his signature rolling bassline and infectious groove to this club anthem, once again proving the timelessness of ‘I Thought It Was You’.
Rolling into the summer of 2023 with the same laser-like focus and consistent work-ethic which have kept him at the top of his game for more than two decades, the good times just keep on rolling for Spanish housemaster David Penn. Still the #1 ranked Beatport House Music artist of all time by an unassailable points margin on Beatstats, he is set to further increase his stronghold on that position, with a plethora of hot new releases and roof-raising remixes on the likes of Defected, Z Records, Tinted, Altra Moda and Armada. His reworks of classic Ibiza anthems ‘The Real Life’ by Raven Maize and ‘La Mezcla’ by Michel Cleis, are already being heavily championed across the island with the season barely a few weeks old.
Alongside a relentless touring schedule which takes in a dozen or more Ibiza dates (including Saturdays for Masquerade at Pacha alongside Claptone and Fridays for Defected at Eden), David continues to tour the world with the same passion and enthusiasm he is best known for, as well as the infectious trademark grin, that is now synonymous with his DJ sets. Furthermore, this year marks the 20 year anniversary of his label Urbana Recordings (and over 600 radio show episodes), which David will celebrate with a series of remixes and digital re-issues on the label. With almost three decades of musical output under numerous guises (including Deux and Kadoc) his ever-expanding arsenal of standout dancefloor anthems have cemented his position as the most consistently successful house music artist in the world right now.
Sex-O-Sonique was formed by Michael Gray and Jon Pearn, the duo behind Full Intention. They produced numerous huge club and chart hits, nearly all of them becoming all-time classics. Their discography includes such great tunes, like ‘I Love America’, ‘I’ll Be Waiting’ (with Shena), ‘Spanish Hustle’, and ‘Everybody Loves The Sunshine’ to name but a few. Full Intention have worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, like Paloma Faith, Duke, Jamiroquai, Whitney Houston, Barbara Tucker, Mood 2 Swing, Ella Henderson, Brandy, Ultra Nate, Aly-us, Fish go Deep, Inner City & DJ Anna and not to forget the Grammy nomination for their remix of George Michael’s ‘Amazing’. So no wonder their innovative sound has had a huge impact on the whole scene and influenced so many other big producers. Michael Gray and Jon Pearn are now enjoying their success with a string of strong releases and DJ sets for labels like Defected, Simma Black, Off Recordings, Suara, BluFin, Rebirth and their own label Full Intention Recordings.
Ahead of his huge globe-trotting summer tour, ‘I Thought It Was You’ is another potent weapon in the David Penn arsenal. This Sex-O-Sonique rework is destined to be a fan favourite.
‘I Thought It Was You’ by David Penn x Sex-O-Sonique is out now via Central Station Records.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
